Game crashing, something to do with my graphics card?

Hi, I had this problem a while ago and it seemed to be fixed when I was forcing Dx11, but the crash happened again recently in the same way as before (where I click on an object in build mode, usually a cabinet does the trick, and the game crashes).  I'm in the middle of downloading updated drivers for my graphics card, didn't know there were more recent ones than what I had been using. Can anyone tell me whether I still need to force Dx11 or if just using the Dx9 would fix this issue? To be honest, I don't really know what Dx11 or Dx9 even mean!

  • Your Computer's DxDiag. You can attach the file directly to your post. Attached.
  • Any critical events you find. Copied and pasted below.
  • Attach the content of this file documents\electronicarts\thesims4\lastcrash.txt (or variations of it). You can attach the file directly to your post. It doesn't seem to be showing up on the post when I've inserted it as an attachment?
  • Are you using custom content or mods in your game? A few pieces of CC, no mods.
  • At what point does your game crash? In Build Mode.
  • Is the crashing random or is there a pattern? A pattern, when i click certain objects such as cabinets.
  • Is it an occasional crash or constant? Constant.

  • jazzshoes2908  DirectX 9 and 11 are runtimes; essentially, they're tools for translating between the system and whatever you install on it.  These are resources Microsoft has created for which it guarantees ongoing support and compatibility with Windows.  Hardware and software manufacturers can build their products to be compatible with some version of DirectX rather than with every possible system setup out there.  So your GPU supports DirectX runtimes, and so does its driver, and so does Sims 4, etc.

Anyway, you can try using DirectX 9 again, but you'll likely have the same issue, in fact I see one of the associated crashes in your dxdiag.  What may help is updating the driver for your graphics chip.  You can get the newest driver from Intel here:

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/226266/intel-core-i51235u-processor-12m-cache-up-to-4-40-ghz-with-ipu/downloads.html

I don't actually know whether Samsung software would block the installation of the driver, but it's easy enough to try.

If that doesn't help, or you can't install the driver, please test with no custom content, just because it's easier than the troubleshooting steps I'd suggest if cc doesn't turn out to be the issue.
