Game crashing

I haven't been able to load my game for over a week now, even with the newest update that came out that I was hoping would fix the issue. The game launches but doesn't even make it to the home page. Crashes after like 20 seconds. I've tried repairing it but that hasn't helped. I don't want to uninstall it and then install it back, cause I have progress I don't want to lose. Anyone else experiencing this?

  • CloudBerryCos  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If you get another crash, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • The above solution worked to get the game running, but as soon as I replaced the mod, tray and save folders it did the same thing. Crashed before even getting to the home screen. Took the mod folder out, that didn't help. Took the tray and save folders out one by one, still no help. I don't want to lose my long time main save, are there any other suggestions? Do I have an unfixable corruption?

  • CloudBerryCos  Try another clean Sims 4 folder, and this time, add back one subfolder at a time, starting with Mods.  If the same thing happens, remove any mods that put files in the saves folder (for example a certain adult mod that can't be mentioned here) as well as those extra files that were added.  Once you've sorted through your mods, you can try the saves and Tray folders.
