Game doesn't open after updating

Hi,

I just updated the game and the game just start to get fast black and then white screens until it stays in a wait screen with the cursor like it's loading.

Before that I had no problem and just a few days ago bought some new add-ons, again, without a problem. It started after the update.

I use a laptop that's pretty new so I know it's not about computer requeriments, I use no mods or cc. Launched via Origin like always. Tried the repair game already but it didn't work.

Please, help needed, thanks.

  • So I tried 5ctdk3cagz7m solution in this post:

    https://forums.ea.com/discussions/the-sims-4-technical-issues-pc-en/managed-to-fix-my-problem-where-it-crashes-during-launch-after-update/4998584

And it worked!!! Will try to restore display settings and everything else but so far I'm on the Sims again!

  • MrsLemonetta  If you have any files in ConfigOverride, please delete them.

Otherwise, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If you get another crash, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the camera (Insert Media) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

puckspaperbacks  The clean user folder might help you as well.  But if not, please create your own thread in the Mac tech forum, or better yet, on Answers HQ:

Hello! I am having the identical problem, (white loading screed with spinning blue circle after downloading patch, game was running perfectly the day before), here are the things I've tried:
      1. I have no mods or CC installed, so it's not that.
      2. Restarting all the things multiple times: EA app, my computer, the game, etc.
      3. Running a 'repair' in the EA app and restarting.
      4. Moving my The Sims folder to my desktop and downloading and running a clean install. Same problem persists.
      5. Filing a bug report in the EA app.
      6. I am supplying your suggested file. :)

Note: The EA help page under "My Cases">start a new case link brings me to a forum page and I get to enter an infinite loop of unhelpfulness. I asked around on Reddit and folks were really nice but there is no solution that worked and my game is broken for now. I suppose I can uninstall and reinstall? Revert my PC to the version before the patch, but I don't think that will work either. I'm at a loss.
I appreciate your help and taking the time to answer questions!

  • I'm experiencing something similar.  I am on Mac and I played my game a few days ago and it was fine. But now I am stuck on the loading screen and cannot get to the main menu.  Quit my game twice and still the same issue.

  • I could have written this exact description because am having the identical problem.

Been playing the Grim's challenges, having a great time. Bought a bundle, installed and played perfectly. I downloaded and installed the patch, and now the game won't open. I'm going to put all of the things I've tried in a reply below, but I'm honestly kind of relieved to not be the only person with this identical problem, even though it's frustrating. I spent an hour + searching and trying solutions last night.

  • EleanorMuffin  Thanks for the info and the dxdiag.  I've seen a few reports of this after the patch, and I don't know what's causing it yet, but there are a couple patterns so far: HP gaming laptops and high DPI scalings.  These may not hold up, but they suggest a place to start, which is by setting your DPI scaling to 96 (100%).  Here's how:

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/change-display-dpi-scaling-level-in-windows-11.934/

If that doesn't help, try forcing Sims 4 to use only your Nvidia graphics card.  Right-click the desktop, select the Nvidia Control Panel, choose Manage 3D Settings > Global settings, and choose the high-performance Nvidia processor.  You'll want to undo this setting after you test, and if it helps, apply it under Program settings for TS4_x64 and TS4_Launcher_x64.

If that doesn't help either, please try playing in a clean boot:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example some HP services might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.

  • Hi there,

Thanks for the replies. I tried some more repairs just to try and see if I got lucky before anything else but no luck. Just to add a bit more info, yup, my laptop it's in fact HP and on my desk computer I can run the Sims but my poor computer it's too weak to play there. Also saw an update on Nvidia drivers and installed that.

I read everything and I did try everything in order provided. Also adding the DxDiag to try and help.

    1- Repairing-NO

    2-ConfigOverride-NOT FOUND

3-Moving the folder and installing again (Note that at first I was unable to move the carpet because I had something called EA Background Service that I removed with Task Manager)- NO

4-DPI Scaling-NO but got trouble understanding everything so maybe inaccurate

    5-Nvidia Graphic Card change-NO

6-Reboot-NO but again, got some trouble understanding everything so maybe inaccurate

In conclusion, I tried my best but still unable to play.

  • MrsLemonetta  For 3, it sounds like you moved the folder where Sims 4 was installed, not the user folder.  That would also explain why you didn't find ConfigOverride.  Here's how to find the user folder:

    https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2018/07/how-to-find-your-user-folder/

Your dxdiag shows your DPI scaling is still 120, not 96.  Did you run the dxdiag before or after trying to change it?

Having said that, someone who might have the same issue—I can't be sure because they didn't post a dxdiag—said that changing their "display settings" fixed the problem:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/PC/Sims-4-White-Screen-Not-Responding-on-startup-after-22-Oct-2024/m-p/14202494#M287656

This may or may not refer to DPI scaling, and I'll ask them, but in the interim, please try again to change to 96, and reboot the computer and see whether the change sticks.

Thanks for keeping helping me. Yeah, the first DxDiag I sent before trying anything, uploading a new one after the DPI scaling.

1-Moving (this time the correct one) folder-NO

2-ConfigOverride-NO (I looked into old and new, none got anything on that folder.)

3-DPI 96-NO (I noticed reading my DxDiag that  System DPI Setting didn't change but I don't know how to do that one.)

4-Reboot-NO (And tried before and after the DPI 96)

5-Uninstalling Antivirus-NO (Just wanted to try something more)

    6-Repair-NO

While try doing anything I can, please keep helping me. I saw that the one that solved the problem didn't reply yet, will keep a look on that too. Thanks.
