Game Keeps Crashing

So not entirely sure how to go about this but I've tried fixing it and I'm not entirely sure what the problem is so hoping someone might be able to help.

My game keeps crashing. It's been doing this for about a month now. Probably around when the Nature's Calling event began.  I find it happens the most often when the game is loading, typically when I'm loading out of CAS. Sometimes I can play for several hours without any problems and then it crashes. More recently, I haven't been able to play at all because I will load the game, go into CAS, do what I want to do, and as soon as I load out of it, it crashes. There was a couple of days recently where it was running just fine and I thought perhaps the new update patched a bug that was causing it but no because 2 days ago it started crashing again and has made the game unplayable for me.

I have tried backing up my files and restarting the game which hasn't fixed anything. I've checked to see if there's not enough space in my storage which might be affecting it but that's not the case. I've even checked to make sure my GPU is up-to-date just in case and it is.

I don't use any CC or mods that could be causing this.

I'll attach the crash report for people to take a look.

  • SrgtMarsmallow  When you say you tried backing up your files and restarting, do you mean you moved or renamed the Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts, so the game wouldn't load any of your old data?  If not, please try that now.

If that doesn't or didn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Please also let me know what world(s) you've been playing in, and on what lots if it has only been a few.

    Hi,

I did what you recommended and tried running the game without the backup file. I only played long enough to start a new household and move them in and while it didn't crash the game was lagging a little bit but nothing unplayable. I do believe that if I continued to play I would run into the same problem. I did move them into the same world I was playing on before just to test.

I've been playing in Oasis Springs, Sulani, and Innisgreen and I've noticed the problem in Sulani and Innisgreen. It only crashed once or twice while I was playing with my household in Sulani but once I moved to Innisgreen the crashing became increased. Specifically, I was playing on The Watering Hole lot.

I've included the dxdiag as requested.

    Thanks!

  • SrgtMarsmallow  The crashes in your dxdiag aren't that informative, which wouldn't be surprising if the problem were the game, specifically the lots you were playing on.  The Watering Hole seems to have issues, as do the other pond lot and the treehouse lot and perhaps the entire Sprucederry neighborhood (the upper-right one).

So if you can replicate a crash on the Watering Hole lot, or any of the above, I'd like to have a lastcrash file.  It would be in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, and I'd only want the most recent one.  This would be to pass on to EA; I can't use most of the file's information.

If you do get another crash on an Innisgreen lot, and you have a lastcrash file to go with it, please delete the file's first line, then attach it to your reply as you did with your dxdiag.  Or you can copy and paste the text, but this site sometimes flags such posts as spam.  So if your post disappears, report the thread and say so, and a community manager should be able to restore it.

Point is, this is the info that EA can use to try to diagnose these crashes, along with your dxdiag that confirms there's no obvious system issue.

I'm not sure why the game crashed in Sulani, but if it only happened once, and it doesn't again, it's probably not worth looking into.  If it does happen again, please let me know what lot you're playing on and exactly what you and your sims were doing at the time, and also what time of day it was within the game.

    Hi,

Apologies for taking so long to respond, I've been away for the week.

I have a crash file from the last crash I experienced which was on the 31st July, I believe. I'll attach it below (hopefully it works). I haven't played on any other Innisgreen lots so I'm not sure if they're experiencing the same issues in my game but I can always try starting a new game and playing on them for a bit to see if they do.

I'm almost hoping that this has been fixed in an update that might have been released while I was away.

  • SrgtMarsmallow  Sorry for the late reply.  I've added your thread to the list for EA to look over, but I couldn't tell you when this might be addressed.  I'd suggest playing on other lots for now.
