Hello I

Hello I am hoping that someone can figure this out for me. I have had this issue for some time. When I play the Sims 4 I only build, but after a few minutes in build mode the sims just shuts down and I am back on the main screen of my PC again. I have had it blue screen on a couple of occasions, but mostly it just closes. I have removed all mods, updated my graphics card driver, moved from origin to EA, cleared all the cache files in the Sims 4 EA folder and ran CCleaner on my PC, but it continues to happen.  Also when I do go in every time it shows all items in the build/buy menu as new and gives me the popup for EVERY pack I own (which is all) as if it was just purchased. It is driving me nuts. I bought this PC just to be able to play the sims and now I can't. Any help would be appreciated.

  • @Rsteph75  The data for which notifications you've seen is stored in notify.glob, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4.  If this file is corrupt, that could explain why you keep seeing the same notifications.  So try deleting it.  You'll of course receive the same notifications one more time, but hopefully only that.

It's also possible that the file is actually getting replaced rather than being corrupt.  This is especially likely if OneDrive is syncing your files.  You can try pausing syncing to see whether it makes a difference:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/how-to-cancel-or-stop-sync-in-onedrive-4885c27e-3d89-4d69-be75-2646c71367d3

The regular crashes could also be related to OneDrive in theory, but the BlueScreens are not.  Your dxdiag also doesn't list the BSODs, just some generic Sims 4 errors and a few crashes of your RGB software.  Please disable the RGB software while you're troubleshooting, just to be thorough.  For the BlueScreens, please look for any associated files here:

    C:\Windows\Minidump

If you find a file with the same timestamp as a recent Sims 4 crash, right-click it and select Copy, then right-click your desktop and select Paste.  From there, you can upload the file to the free third-party filehosting site of your choice (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) and link it here.

If you don't find any relevant crash dumps, that's fine, just let me know.  In that case, my first suggestion would be the same as above—to pause OneDrive syncing—and if that doesn't help, to play while your computer is offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offine mode, then disconnect from the internet before pressing Play.

@Rsteph75  This particular BlueScreen was caused by the Nvidia graphics driver, so please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the driver, as described here:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

You can get a fresh copy of the newest Nvidia driver here:

    https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/198400/en-us/

Please disable your antivirus, if you have one, while installing the driver.  Since your computer will be offline the entire time, it should be safe.

@Rsteph75   You should configure OneDrive to not sync the user files for this game. The game creates a user game folder in c:/user/(name of user)/documents/(electronic Arts. The folder is not created until the game successfully starts the first time. Open OneDrive settings and uncheck the Electronics Arts folder. This should stop OneDrive from syncing the game user files. I also check the keep files on this computer. When the game tries to write new file(s) to the game user folder, that data is redirected by Windows to the user OneDrive folder to sync. Windows may not start the sync process right away and while Windows is syncing that data may (probably) be unavailable. When you configure OneDrive to keep files on this computer you should notice files being returned. I also noticed that you can not change OneDrive settings when it is syncing - you have to it finish before you can change the settings. Just unlinking the computer does not stop the issue. Microsoft really (and I mean really really) wants you to use OneDrive. I figure if MS went through all this trouble to annoy me the least I can do is make OneDrive happy.    hth

@Rsteph75  A lastcrash is mostly useless, unfortunately, at least to regular users.  (A Maxis developer might understand it, but not those of us who help on this forum.)  Since you have a lastcrash.txt, I'm guessing you didn't get a BlueScreen, which is good, but it would be helpful to see a crash dump from Sims 4, that is if one exists.  Click Windows key-R and copy and paste this:

    %LocalAppData%\CrashDumps

When you enter, you'll see a list of .dmp files.  If one of them is from Sims 4 and corresponds with this crash, please upload it.  If you see a crash dump that was written at exactly the time of the most recent crash, I'd like that too.  I don't need to see older ones though.

Please also post a new dxdiag so I can see if anything relevant has changed.

@roberta591  The player attached a dxdiag to their original post.
