I can't play my game!

Hello, I have seen this on other forums and wanted to add my experience. Ever since the most recent update, I have been unable to play my game. It crashes at the loading screen, therefore it doesn't make it to the main menu. I get no pop ups saying it crashed it just closes the game. I went on this forum for help cause I saw that other people were having the same issue. I tried everything from upgrading my graphics card, deleting the cache, allowing the game through my firewall, running it at administrator, and removing my mods folder. Nothing worked. So I am here because I'm upset that I can't play my game and I refuse to factory restart it as that risks me losing all of my saved that I have worked so hard on. And yes I did try repairing it. I'm not one to complain about the game so much as I have a powerful gaming computer and rarely experience bugs, this is the first time I have an issue with your game and I know I'm not the only one with this problem. Please respond to us and fix this issue as all of us have spent a lot of money on the game and created unique builds and stories. I've never had an issue with an update, and if we did in the past it was resolved quickly. I want this to be resolved too. So EA please fix our game so we can play again!

  • I have managed to get my game running again. This is what I did:

    1. took the saves-folder out of my Sims 4 folder in Documents and put it on my desktop
    2. also moved my Mods-folder to my desktop
    3. started the game and turned on script and custom mods
    4. moved my mods from the folder on my desktop back into the newly created mods-folder in Documents (I didn't copied the folder, but only the mod files)
    5. started the game again and created a new random household and let it move into a house
    6. save the household and then close the game
    7. copied my old save files into the newly created save folder (there should also be the brand new save file from the savegame you just created)
    8. started the game again and it actually loaded all save-games without crashing

I have not yet tested whether the game crashes again if I continue playing my main save file, save and then load the game again. But at least i could get it running again. Will probably wait for an official bug-fix. Just to be safe.

  • Not sure if this is helpful, but i had a lot of problems when onedrive was active for the documents folder thats default for savedata and whatnot.

The weird thing is I tested it out on my laptop last night (I have no mods or cc on it) and it worked just fine and I was able to play. I find it weird that it won't let me play on my gaming computer where I do have mods and CC and I'm hoping that my most recent save isn't the one I'll never be able to play again because I put a lot of time and effort into that one. It's a full on supernatural world with unique Sims and stories and my favorite save to play and if I can't play it then EA needs to fix this issue because there is no reason why we shouldn't be able to play our most recent saves!

Yes! I removed my old save files and it worked for me.

I'll have to try this method once I get home. Although I still think we shouldn't have to go through this process if they would just fix the game properly and prevent this problem in future updates. Thanks for the advice! I'll keep you updated as to whether or not it works for me :)

This worked! And I'm happy to say that I was able to upload some of my merfolk Sims into a MerMay forum post here! I'm so happy to have my saved back! Thank you so much for the advice!!! 😁
