laggy ahh game

i’ve been simming for super long. about 2 weeks ago, my game would randomly start crashing after 15min-1hour of gameplay so i bought a new drive because i thought maybe my old one had gotten corrupted but after the switch i was still having the same issue. i then removed all my mods and didnt play until post update. when i launched my game i was still having the same problem. so i did some research and i created a new folder and did the whole “sims 4 old” thing but i deleted the entire folder by mistake and since launching my game it is sooo laggy. the first time i launched it after deleting the “old”folder i got a pop up abt a missing video game card and its been moving slow ever since. sorry this is so long but if you can help plz do 😵‍💫?

  • mills1227  Please try playing in a clean boot (not a reinstall of Windows, just a way to disable services):

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.

If this helps, you can selectively reenable services until you find the culprit, then either leave that disabled or (if it belongs to an app you want to keep using) let me know what it is so we can try to fix the underlying issue.

If the game freezes or crashes in a clean boot, please try again, except with your computer offline.

As for your sims, are they gone from your saves, or are the saves gone, or is it just that the sims don't show up in the preview but they're fine in-game?

okay update i tried but in still having the same issue. also since the june 30th update, when loading my game my sims don’t appear on the main menu screen😭? and it takes much longer than usual when loading . but as for my gameplay, things load fine and such it’s just if i’m not using buttons to control the view than it’s super choppy/laggy in a way it never has been

  • mills1227  Does the game run better if you restart your computer immediately before playing, and don't open anything other than the EA App?  I ask because your laptop's 6 GB available RAM (2 GB is reserved for the graphics chip) is enough to run Sims 4 and Windows but not much else.  So please test and let me know.  If it doesn't help, restart and try again, this time with your computer offline.  You can put the EA App in offline mode and then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

Hippiechk_420  Please create your own thread describing your issue, and attach a dxdiag.

  • I've been having the same issue!! its driving me insane. i have a brand-new computer !

  • mills1227  The unrecognized video card error is normal to see after you've deleted the Options.ini file, which is inside the Sims 4 folder you deleted.  As long as you only saw it once, that's fine.

For the crashing and lag, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
