My game keeps crashing

For about a week or so, every time I start my game it freezes anywhere between 2 and 20 minutes after starting. My drivers are up to date, I un-installed and re-installed both Origin and The Sims 4 with all of the expansion packs, deleted my save files to start over, and the game STILL crashes. Ive moved the folders onto the desktop to clear space. I don't have CC so that can't be the problem.  Usually any time I go into Build Mode, the screen freezes and I can't even access the task manager to close the game. I have to turn off my computer. Now, it's just any time I launch the game in general. I bought this laptop in 2021 and it meets all of the requirments, so I doubt it's a computer problem. Everything was fine up until mid October. I don't know what else to do.

If that doesn't help or isn't relevant, please uninstall any Razer apps you use: Synapse, Cortex, whatever you can find.  You may be able to reinstall them later, but please test with them removed.

If you can't play at all, that's a different issue, usually fixed by one of these settings changes:

While I do think it's a good idea to get it diagnostic on my laptop, with so many other people having this issue immediately after the last update on Oct 22, which is exactly when my problem started, I can't really believe that my hardware is the issue. Seems like the game is just singling out systems.

  • miasaleemah  I understand your point, but among the many reports, and many dxdiags, I've seen since the patch, there have been relatively few LiveKernelEvent 141 errors.  The players with these errors who've replied to my suggestion to uninstall and reinstall the driver have all or almost all said it fixed the problem.  So while there is definitely a plethora of crashing-related issues, they're not really your particular issue.

puzzlezaddict  Thank you so much! The game had become unplayable, crashing immediately when I tried to play any household. That was a quick and easy fix. Many thanks...

  • 0000008893  Your dxdiag is missing some critical information because it crashed while running.  This could be a fluke, but just in case it's a sign of a system issue, please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

For the Sims 4 issue, if your computer's processor is an i7-13700K/14700K or an i9-13900K/14900K, the issue may be the motherboard's automatic overclocking settings.  (The dxdiag would normally list the processor, but that info is part of what's missing.)  In that case, please disable XMP and CPU Turbo Boost, both in the BIOS settings.  XMP should be easy to find; CPU Turbo Boost is typically hidden deep within Advanced settings and sometimes has a slightly different name.

A longer-term fix to this would be updating your BIOS, if an updated version is available that addresses the stability issues, but I can't see what motherboard you have either.  Still, you can check yourself if you want.  Just make absolutely sure you're viewing the support page for your exact model board, as each one has its own BIOS versions that are not compatible with any other board.

If the above doesn't apply, please post a new dxdiag.  Please also look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.
