My sims 4 genuinely just doesn't work

This is the first time a problem has been so bad that I've had to go towards other resources to help, if I'll even get an answer in a reasonable time.
Every time I try to open the sims 4 via steam, it says it's preparing the game, before it closes and opens my EA app. When I try opening the game via EA app, it does the same thing.
I've cleared my Cache, I've reinstalled EA two times, I've verified my files and game, I've done mod scans, I've updated my EA app, I've cleared my EA app cache twice, I do not understand what the issue is.
I've been at this for nearly an hour as of typing this, and it's constantly just aggravating me. There have been no error messages or anything that can even hint at what the issue is, and I don't want something that involves moving or going through files because I have literal thousands of those and I would hate to go through that catastrophe just for it to not work.
Is this normal?? I want to fix it ASAP, it's so annoying.

  • StarCrusher3009  Do you have Steam family sharing enabled, or anything similar?  If so, please turn it off—it doesn't play well with Sims 4.

Aside from that, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • I just flushed out my sims 4 cc AND mods, and NONE of them are the issue. I've been at this for 3-4 hours.

  • StarCrusher3009  I don't know if you've seen my reply to you, but in case you did, there are other files aside from the contents of the Mods folder that could cause this issue.  A clean user folder cuts through all of that.

It does indeed run in a clean folder.
Does that mean a mod/or mods is the problem? Are there commonly known mods that do this?
And how do I get it to run on my normal folders?

  • StarCrusher3009  It could be your mods, and an easy way to test is to move your old Mods folder to the new Sims 4 folder.  (Delete the almost-empty folder that's there already.)  If the game stops working, you can check out this list of mods known to have broken with the newest patch:

Broken and Updated Sims 4 Mods and CC: 1.115, May 27, 2025 Game Update | EA Forums - 12212233

If that doesn't help, you'll need to test your mods yourself.  The 50/50 method can make the process much more efficient:

If your mods are fine, the problem was elsewhere, for example a stale file in ConfigOverride could do this.  You can start transferring over the other content you want to keep, for example the files in the saves and Tray folders, but it's best to only transfer what's necessary.  The game will recreate most files and folders on its own.
