preparing to update pc to Windows 11, need technical advice

I know I need to save/back up some folders.  What I did was copy the entire sims 4 folder onto an external drive so I could just copy that folder back into the game once the pc (tower) is windows 11.

My intent was to just copy it back into the sims game, but what if the sims 4 game and EA platform are inadverdently deleted?   Can I safely just copy the all the EA files, EA plaform file as well, onto an external drive and then drop them in the PC after it's updated to windows 11?

I am not sure the best avenue to take.  I have also read about some having issues getting sims 4 to play after the win 11 upgrade and I am trying to avoid that!  The only reason I even mess with a PC anymore is to play my sims games!!!  Surf the web sometimes and come to this site, that it... So your help and guidance will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you very much!

not sure what tags to use, just guessing.

If program files or the EA App gets deleted, it would be best to reinstall rather than copying over your data.  You have to go through the motions of reinstalling anyway, and this removes a couple of potential sources of error.  The only exception is if your internet is so slow as to make reinstalling a burden.  In that case, it's worth trying to copy back the files and "reinstall" by telling the App to download to that location, then letting it verify the data and finalize the install.  It would still be much better to reinstall the EA App itself from scratch though, and it's small.

Hopefully you won't need to worry about either one though.
