Re: Sims 4 Disc Questions

1) you will probably enjoy The Sims 4 if you have at least an entry level gaming computer. While lesser computers may run the game the graphics and/or game performance may be less then acceptable.

2) expansion packs and mods can be downloaded online. Outdoor Retreat is being sold as a online download (not disc based). My guess is that this is the way future expansions will be distributed. Game mods have to be manually installed so once the mod data is downloaded and copied to some media you can install.

3)batteries are in laptops and if the laptop has a switchable gaming graphics chip then the gaming chip will require and use more power and you will have less laptop operating time.

4) You do not NEED an internet connection to p[lay The Sims 4. But you WILL need an internet  connection to:

- activate the game after you install the game

- patches are provided through Origin which is an online service much like Steam

- you can play the game with Origin in the offline mode.

- the disc is for installation only. Once the game is installed the disc is not required to play.

Thanks for the answers! Though, I'm still confused about questions #1 and #2. I'll try to rephrase and be as specific as I can.

    1) What BRAND of PC's support Sims 4? Mac? Asus? And will I be able to just insert the disc into the disc slot thing(I don't know what it's called, sorry) to install the game?

    2) This question will be more complicated. I'll start from the beginning. My friend and I are planning to buy Sims 4 disc soon. I told her about expansion packs and mods that would be cool to download. She said that since our game would be downloaded from a disc and not bought online, expansion packs and mods can't be installed. Is this true?

Sorry if I sound a bit annoying with all my questions. I just want to have a good time while playing Sims 4.

TS4 was first released as pc Windows. Recently a Mac version was released. There seemed to have been more problems with the Mac version of TS3 then the pc Windows version. Hopefully EA has refined the Mac issues (time will tell as the Mac release is new). Most gamers scratch build their pcs. Gaming laptops are available from vendors like Dell (Alienware is now Dell), www.cyberpowerpc.com, ibuypower.com, www.falcon-nw.com, and others. Basically I recommend a computer that has more power then a student computer or social media computer as Sims 4 is a graphical game and to enjoy the graphics you should have a gaming graphics chip to get the full benefit of the graphics. There are laptops you can get from mass market vendors but the engineering may be less then required by the hardware design (cooling, power, etc). Most student laptops are not designed for heavy gaming and poor cooling may lead to over heating.

Even though you buy the disc version you can not "share" the game. The disc is only for installation and once the game is activated the code is locked to the Origin account that was used to activate the game. Only one user can be logged in to that Origin account at a time. The game updates through Origin. Expansion packs are available through Origin (as the first pack is just coming out but I don't see a disc version - yet). EA has chosen to use Origin as the drm to control piracy instead of more invasive drm such as SecuROM. Origin is like Valve's Steam (my opinion) and seems to be a popular way of distributing software (games).

Thanks for the explaniation. But I'm STILL confused. I know you might be thinking I'm an idiot right now.

Once a disc version of the game is installed into the PC, will it be able to accept expansion packs and mods or not? Or do I have to buy the game online for them to work? Please answer in the simplest way that you can think of.

I know this is old, but I just want to clarify that yes, you can still install expansions and mods even if you purchase the disc version of the game. The Game Packs are only available online anyway, and they work regardless of how you installed the base game. The same goes for Expansion Packs, either purchased online or in a box. In many cases, Origin will download Sims 4 anyway, even if you're trying to use the disc.

As for sharing, it is possible only if both of you use the same Origin log in, (that was used when activating and installing the game.)

@ChaseV1300  The disc version is for installation only. You still need to activate the game in an Origin account. Once installed the disc version and the digital download version are the same. Yes you can still use cc and mods.
