Re: The sims 4 crashes everytime sim travels or exit the cas

@dumraen  Thanks for providing the dxdiag, which would have been my first request.  The Sims 4 crashes it lists are typically related to conflicting software, often from Razer.  So if you've installed any Razer apps—Synapse, Cortex, Game Manager Service, whatever—please remove them all and test again.  If that helps, you can reinstall them one at a time to see what the problem is, although it's possible that reinstalling will clear up the crashing.

If that doesn't help, please disconnect all peripherals, including your video capture devices, and restart the computer.

If that doesn't help either, please try playing in a clean boot:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.

Please do continue to test without your mods, at least for now.

Hi there, Thanks for the response! So i checked anything that is from razer, but i don't have any like synapse cortex or game manager service, i looked for it in a control panel (the one where you can uninstall things), i'm not sure if that's the right place to search, i did play in a clean boot after that, however the game still crashed when i tried leaving CAS, i haven't disconnected all peripherals or my video capture devices tho, i will look for how to do it

  • Ooh oops, you meant my if i connected any USB and external camera, right ?? I'm sorry, i'm half asleep :'

Hi, i was only able to disconnect my web cam from pc or else i wouldn't be able to use my keyboard and mouse, my game still kept on crashing, also i'm using LAN cable, i'm not sure if that could affect anything, i also did try playing without mods and cc, but it was still crashing, do you think it's the save file that might have been corrupted ? It's Blooming save file btw, i just downloaded it yesterday

@dumraen  Does the game crash if you try a new save?  That would be the first question if a specific save were crashing.  The errors in the dxdiag aren't typically save corruption-related, but that isn't definitive.

Hello! I think it's not the save file, i decided to do 50/50 again and i could exit CAS without crashing, it's kinda weird, since i actually tested playing without mods and the game crashed right after i left CAS

  • Oh right, these are screenshots if you need them, i thought these would be of a help

@dumraen  So to be clear, this save crashes only some of the time when you exit CAS, with or without mods and cc?  Is there any pattern to the sim(s) you're editing or the items they're wearing?  For example, the game might be fine if you change your sim's Everyday outfit but not if you leave it intact, suggesting a problem with their current outfit that's fixed when you replace it.

Please also test a new save just for comparison's sake.

it crashes whenever i exit CAS and when my sim travels (i assumed it was the lot being corrupted) so i replaced them, and it didn't crash, altho sometimes the game still crashes when i travel. Also i reinstalled the game twice, double checked every mods and ccs

Also, it used to crash even without cc/mods (when i did my 50/50 and when i played without any cc/mods), but yesterday when i did 50/50 again it didn't crash when i tried to exit CAS

@dumraen  Okay, the next time you get a crash, let me know the context, and please also see whether the game crashes again in that context.  If it does crash again in DirectX 11 mode, as you're currently using, please test DX9 mode too.

Hi, sorry it's been a while, i've been testing it without mods or cc, tried using dx9, repaired the whole game, and played in a new save, and my game still crashed ☹️ i literally reinstalled the game twice, so i'm not sure whats causing this whole thing to happen

@dumraen  What were you doing in-game this time when it crashed?  Please also post any related info from the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

@dumraen  Some Gallery lots, perhaps many, are corrupt to the point that they don't place properly.  The same can be true of lots in your Library.  So please avoid that for now, or else test any lot you want to play with in a new save and only use it if it works properly.

@dumraen  This particular crash is a heap corruption error, suggesting a possible issue with memory or storage.  That's not definitive but at least strongly suggests that's the next place to look.  So please run tests on both, in either order, and let me know what you find.  For the drive:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste "chkdsk /f /r c:" without quotes, and enter
    • You'll be asked to allow a restart; say yes
    • When the scan is done, use this guide to find the results

You should be able to attach the report to a post as well.  Running chkdsk will take some time, so you may want to leave it while you're doing something else.

For the RAM, the gold standard is MemTest86, testing each module separately and in at least two different slots on the motherboard.

    https://www.memtest86.com/index.html

    https://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/memtest86_memory_guide/

Since this is time-consuming, you can start with chkdsk and see what you get, and you can also use Microsoft's built-in memory diagnostics first:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/technet-magazine/ff700221(v=msdn.10)?redirectedfrom=MSDN

I wouldn't consider a pass from this tool to be even close to definitive, but if it does flag an error, that's probably accurate.

Finally, I'd like to know what RAM you're using, by product number.  If you don't have that handy, you can find it on the modules themselves.
