"Secret" Sims?

Hi,

All of the Sims in my main family are marked as 'secret.' I can watch them roam around but can't actually interact with them. I've uninstalled the game and Origin then reinstalled them, but nothing changed. Any other suggestions?

    Hi @georgiagirl19, 

    I did some more testing today and I might have found a solution how you can save your family. You will loose all your money (that can be re-cheated with motherlode) and possibly your inventory (not sure if your Sims had anything in it before). I have not tested it for an extended period of time but after doing the following steps, your family does seem fine.

    1. Backup your user files. http://sims4.crinrict.com/en/2014/09/backups/
    2. Remove all saves except slot_00000002.save from your saves folder (move or delete, doesn't matter since you already made a backup)
    3. Start your game
    4. Load the save game that's still there
    5. From Manage World, directly start the Household Manager. Under played families, you'll find your family twice. Load the one WITH the baby in CAS
    6. Save them to your library and leave CAS
    7. Now delete the family with the baby AND the clone without the baby from your game
    8. Go back to manage world
    9. Type the cheat freerealestate on so you don't have to repay for your house
    10. Go to your library and find the family you have saved there then place them to their old house from CAS
    11. Load the family
    12. Cheat the money back up to whatever you want it
    13. Save the game under a new name
    14. Close the game and remove the slot_00000002.save and only keep the new, good save
    15. Enjoy the game

    Let me know if you need pictures or are unclear on any step.

    Hi @georgiagirl19,

    Can you attatch a screenshot? You can make a screenshot in-game by pressing C key on your keyboard. Your screenshots are saved in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Screenshots. You can upload it to a server like imgur and copy/paste the link or upload directly here at Answers HQ.

    Also, are you using any mods in your game?

    I have not downloaded any mods, though I will admit to using a few cheats for money and things. But I'm not able to interact with them beyond changing the camera, and I'm still able to build.

    @georgiagirl19

    Have your Sims travelled to Sylvan Glades or Fogotten Grotto (those hidden lots from Base game)? Have you switched active household while your Sims were in one of those hidden lots?

    I think your game is updated, but anyways can you check for game updates in Origin? Right-click on The Sims 4 cover and click Check for updates

    Also, please try a factory reset of The Sims 4. Click here to learn how to do it.

    I haven't been to either, and the factory reset didn't change anything - after playing with it a little more I am able to select tasks for them to do, but they don't follow through and do them, and the tasks don't show up in the queues. 

    And I fully updated everything a few hours ago, as well.

    Okay, so let's try to reset your Sims. Open cheat box by pressing Control + Shift + C and write "resetsim Name Surname" (without quotes, change Name and Surname and with your Sim's actual name and surname) and repeat the process with every Sim you need to reset. Let me know if that works 🙂

    No luck - after I entered the cheat, my Sims disappeared and when I entered it again, in case I typed something wrong, it said "Sim not found."

    Okay, can you upload your saves folder (Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Saves) to a hosting service like OneDrive or Google Drive and provide the link? We'll try your save and see if we can manage to solve the issue and tell you how to do it. You can compress your Saves folder into a .zip before uploading if you want.

    When you provide the link for downloading Saves folder, please specify the name of your save game (if you have more than one save) so we can found it faster.

    Hi @georgiagirl19,

    Thanks for the saves. @crinrict and I have tried your saves, but sadly there's no way to recover it ☹️ We tried different workarounds and also tried with save game backups, but none of this worked. The best you can do is start a new save game, you can do it by clicking the '+' button on the top right corner of The Sims 4 main menu.
