Sims 3 and 4 won’t launch correctly

I’m  at a loss for what to do and am hoping someone can give me a hand!

For almost a year now the Sims 4 has had an on and off again issue where when launching everything freezes on the loading screen . I can’t even move the mouse. When I use the windows button to exit to my Home Screen and re enter the app, it appears that things have loaded correctly but it’s still frozen. I then have  to use task manager to close the app. Every few months it fixes itself and then a new update will come out and it won’t work anymore.

I recently downloaded the Sims 3 to scratch that sims itch however after a couple hours of game play my game froze and I’m now having the same issue upon launching.

I’ve tried restarting my computer, repairing the apps, and just don’t know what else to do. I have no cc or mods and only a couple DLCs (most of which are free ones I’ve collected over the years) . I have put well over 200 hours into the Sims 4 and am just sad and frustrated over this issue.

  • I am currently having similar issues with BOTH games. I just want to enjoy something in life.

  • 10bugR  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

Please repeat the test for Sims 3 as well.

If you get an error when moving either folder, or it copies instead of moving, let me know.

If you still can't play at least one of the games, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the camera (Insert Media) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
