Sims 4 Crashes When Launched

Hey guys! I have an issue I've been trying to solve for 4 days now and could use some advice...

I try to load up my Sims 4 game, and when I click it, it loads, but before it reaches the menu, it crashes and exits the game completely. I feel like I have tried everything that would show up on Google, I've talked to an advisor on the EA tech support, I've followed what others have shared on the Steam discussion threads, and more.

What I have tried includes:

  • Restarting and updating my laptop
  • Uninstalling Sims 4, the EA app, and Steam. The reinstalling them one by one.
  • Verifying the integrity of the files
  • Moving files around and connecting my hard drive back up to my computer (it isn't connected to my computer)
  • Updating every app I have
  • Uninstalling any mods or DLC connected to Steam and Sims 4 (including the EA app)
  • Repairing and restarting the EA app
  • Updating my graphics card and changing it to other options
  • Open the task manager and end the process of the EA background services
  • and more...

If you have any other support ideas or ways to fix this, or try to fix it, please let me know!

If anyone else is having this issue, please let me know as well because I am really stressed out and would love to know if I am not the only one...

Thank you...

  • kulu10222  Have you specifically tried playing in a clean user folder?  That would mean moving the Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts, or renaming it, and confirming that it hasn't been duplicated, that there is no "The Sims 4" folder in that location when you go to launch the game.  Moving or renaming the folder would prevent your saves and other user data from loading, which is the point, but everything would be intact and could be restored later.

If that doesn't or didn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Pethypoo  The above applies to you as well.

Hello puzzlezaddict ,thank you for helping me. I have tried moving the Sims, renaming it, and making sure it isn't duplicated anywhere else. I just tried it all again and had my dad look at it too. My game still crashes. I even tried moving my game over to my hard drive and removing it from my laptop completely, and it still doesn't work.

I have attached the dxdiag, I am unsure how this helps since I'm not very tech inclined haha. Thank you.

  • kulu10222  Your dxdiag shows that Acer's registration software is crashing repeatedly.  Since there's no reason for it to be running all the time, I would suggest disabling it in the Task Manager's Startup tab.  This wouldn't prevent you from opening it, only stop it from starting automatically with Windows.  Please also make sure it's not running in the Task Manager's background processes list before trying to play.

The game goes for Acer Care Center, although the dxdiag only lists one crash from this app.  The dxdiag only lists the last ten crashes though, so this app could be crashing more often, just not as often as some other software.

Finally, the dxdiag lists a couple crashes from Microsoft's Edge Gaming Assist, which it looks like you would open with Windows key-G.  So try to avoid that, and if it's still showing up on-screen (or Edge just happens to open when you're not expecting it), here's how to disable it entirely:
