Re: [CURRENT ISSUE] Sims 4 already running

i stopped playing the game for a few months, and returned to it the other day to find that it has an error stating it is already running. i did everything every website said and the error still persists.

i went into task manager, cleared all cache, allowed it has an administrator, added the file as an exception to controlled folders, and much more.

everything on other posts hasn't worked so i'm hoping that something here will.

@Safalinz  If OneDrive is running on your computer, please pause syncing.  You can see the option by right-clicking the cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.

If that doesn't help, or OneDrive isn't active (and please check even if you never use it), please move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and try again to play.

If that doesn't help etiher, please let me know what antivirus you use.

@Morgowens  Did you try the suggestion in post 2?  If not, please do so now.

If that doesn't or didn't help, please create a new admin Windows account on your computer and try playing there.  Make it local, as in, don't link it with your Microsoft account.  Your saves and other user data won't be available, but that can be addressed later.  For now, just let me know whether the game works.

I have had this issue as well since the update. I have tried to run everything as administrator. I uninstalled the game and ea launcher. I turned off firewall and anti-virus. Nothing is fixing this problem. Has this issue been escalated to EA? The only way I can play the game is to use a local account, which means I have to switch users logged into my computer if I want to play. Unacceptable. Appreciate all those trying to help, but it is super frustrating.

@lynannegelinas  The fact that the second account works means the problem is with your main account, which means it's not a Sims or EA issue by definition.  If you want to troubleshoot the issue with your main account, there are a couple approaches.  First, if OneDrive is running on this computer (whether you use it or not), please pause syncing before trying to play.  You can see the option by right-clicking the cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.

If that doesn't help, or OneDrive isn't running, try running the takeown command, as described here:
