Sims 4 Missing Content and Saves

So, after the update on Apr 29 my game told me that I had broken mods due to the update and would not be able to play properly, and instead of playing without certain mods till the new updates came out I decided I wouldn't play at all until that happens. May 8th I sat down to check on my updates and such and I am not sure why but all of my documents on my computer were removed from my computer and put 'in the cloud'. So that whole day I left it open to sit and redownload them onto my computer because it would not even let me start up the Sims4 game cause it didn't have the documents to run it. It was still not running properly so through some digging I found that you can 'repair' your game to the last save you did and it should make the game work. So i did that. Now I am confused as all hell because my saves are not correct and nothing makes sense...

I have 3 saves on my game. I have my first world which has like 5 different families in it. My second save (which still had all my builds from my first save in the game), this has 2 families in it. My most recent save which I was just starting (but doesn't have any of the builds from save 1 or 2), and only 1 family just starting... like i haven't even built them a home....

But now that I went through all of this updating issues ^^^ I for some reason have a bunch of saves in my saves folder... but when i go into the gave my second save is completely wiped from existence and cannot figure out where it went. And my 3rd save doesn't have any of my first save builds. I spent all of April working on a specific build and it isn't in my gallery (which i added it to before any of this happened), it has no recollection of anything I have built or done for my second save... so why do I have my third save and not my second?

Any help would be great cause I have been through reddit, and am at the point of tears of frustration trying to get this god **bleep** thing to work!

Thank you so much in advance!

  • Sparia101  Please post a screenshot of the contents of the saves folder, as in, I'd like to see the save names and sizes.  Include the address bar, above the list of files, in the screenshot.

Please also list the location where Sims 4 is installed.  Open the EA App, click Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and list the file path you see there.

  • Sparia101  OneDrive is probably the cause of this issue, in that it's syncing your files and perhaps replacing the ones you want with older copies.  Since your OS won't allow two files in the same location to have the same name, sometimes an older version can overwrite a newer one.

For now, there are saves from late April that the game can't read because their names have the wrong format.  I'm talking about all the files with -Elanor in the name; that needs to go.  Start by renaming this:

    Slot_00000002-Elanor.save

    to this:

    Slot_0000000a.save

If that's taken, use a different letter (b to f) or a higher number (e.g. 12 or 20); the key is there need to be eight digits in total after Slot_ and before .save.  If this save isn't viable, try one of the backups with the same -Elanor in the name, and renumber it to something else you're not using.

Longer-term, I would suggest getting rid of OneDrive or at least not allowing it to sync your Sims 4 data.  Please see the first post of this master thread for instructions:
