Sims 4 Saving Problem

So here's the thing - I don't get any error codes, it's just that my game won't save. Everytime I click on Save, the saving screen won't show up, just back to the game. I tried using Save As but it doesn't save at all. I only notice a perpetually present hourglass beside the cursor, but I'm not loading anything. When I go to Live Mode and unpause the game, the game works just fine, but the hourglass never vanishes.

I tried Manage Worlds (Save and Go To Manage Worlds), Exit Game (Save and Exit Game), Exit to Main Menu (Save and Exit to Main Menu) and nothing. I had to force quit my game through task manager (and thankfully not a lot of things has happened in my game just yet.

Before all this happened, here's a quick rundown of what I did:

1) Cheat-killed an elderly sim (vital to my storyline lol) by overexhaustion

2) Had his YA wife save him from Grim Reaper

3) Realized that was a wrong move and cheat-killed the elderly sim again, who now died.

4) Placed his urn in the inventory of YA wife and had YA wife travel to designated burial grounds

5) Set up elderly sim's resting place

6) Had YA wife join the criminal career

7) Cheat promoted YA wife to Getaway Driver

8) Cheat added skills to meet requirements for the next promotion

9) Had YA wife join the Renegades at Bathe de Rill by cheating the relationships

10) Switched Households

11) Had the household matriarch take over the Renegades (+cheat, etc)

12) Switched Hangout Lot to Rattlesnake Bar

13) Added club outfit for both adult male and adult female. Then traveled to the bar, ended the gathering there and started another gathering so that matriarch will switch to the designated club outfit from her swimsuit, but she didn't so I had her switch to her everyday instead. I left the game for a bit, and opted to have it run autonomously.

14) Apparently, Wolfgang Munch opted to do his homework at the bar, past school time (it was around 10:45 AM Sim Time)

15) All sims seems to have stopped whatever they're doing even despite the fact that they have a list of actions in their queue

16) They seem to work through their actions at a glacial pace while clock goes on just fine.

17) I tried to find out what's happening, so I ended the gathering and tried to bring matriarch home.

18) Tried to manage worlds but it failed.

19) Suddenly popped a loading screen (expecting it to be manage worlds) but then it loaded to matriarch's home.

20) Got confused, saw the perpatually present hourglass on the cursor

21) I can control my sims just fine.

22) Tried Manage Worlds Again and it worked, but the hourglass is still there

23) Switched households to the Goths.

24) Everything's working just fine, except again for the present hourglass

25) I still can't save when I try to exit the game to try and refresh it. And the hourglass is still attached to the cursor.

One weird thing I noticed tho was when I do homework (teen, controlled or uncontrolled) during a club gathering, the game seems to stop. The sim hours go on, the other effects work as usual but the sims themselves seem to stop (but they still nod, scratch their heads, etc) but they just stop moving. For instance, there was once sim who was supposed to go to the comfort room then all of a sudden, they just stopped along with everyone in the entire lot just because my sim (controlled) is doing her homework with her clubmates (uncontrolled). This seems to keep on happening.

I had one crash about three days ago, and my game hasn't acted up since - except for now. I still have the crash file as attached to this post, but I'm not sure if that's the one people need.

Hoping to receive feedback on this one. I'll try to run the game again just to see how it goes and update this post again. I thought that even if the game will run normally this time, I still think the crash file needs taking a good look at, as it may be connected to my problem right now.

THANKS A LOT!

  • The issue with teen homework is a known issue. If teens do homework and chat, a kind of dead lock occurs that freezes the game

What should help with that is pressing the ESC key to make the option menu show or press M. You might also need to cancel the interaction. I would avoid using teen homework in groups atm.

Did you restart the game yet and see if the saving issue reoccurs ?

Also are you using any mods in your game ?

    Hi crinrict,

Thanks for the response! So I did a few tests and checked out my game - so far it managed to save everything I did despite the saving screen not showing up. Unfortunately, at the time, cancelling the interaction doesn't make them actually stop doing the homework. They just freeze. Hoping this gets resolved soon, though, now that you've mentioned it as a known issue.

Everything started to work well again upon restarting. I ran the game again early today and I did not let any of my teens work on their homework, and everything's working just fine. So I do think it is just an issue with the homework that sort of ruined the game.Though we now have a new patch which I have just installed, I'll see if something happens again.

No, no mods for me as of the moment, and I have every EP, GP and SP except Romantic Garden and the Movie Hangout.

Thanks a lot, crinrict! Will care to have teens work on their homework alone for the meantime and try to keep uncontrolled teen sims in the club to be preoccupied enough to prevent them to do their homework while on a gathering.

    Thank you!

They can do their homework, just not while chatting with other people. So, yeah, doing them on their own in their own room should work.

The game should unfreeze if you cancel the homework interaction AND press ESC. You kinda need to do both or they'll just get stuck again. You can add doing home work as anti-rule to your club.

If you have NPCs doing homework, it's a bit of a problem and traveling to your home lot is often the only solution. You should be able to resolve the dead locks that way though
