Sims 4 will not launch "error"

I have never had issues with my Sims game until the most recent Sims 4 update released on August 19, 2025. Since then, the game has been glitchy, and now I receive the same repetitive error every time I try to launch: “Failed to launch game” and “An error on our end prevented the launching of the game; try again later.” I’ve done everything on my end—restarted my computer and the EA app, repaired the game, removed any potentially harmful mods, and repeated these steps multiple times. Nothing has worked. I’ve also reviewed the forums, both past and present, and this continues to be a widespread problem. It is incredibly frustrating that these issues keep occurring with updates, yet there seems to be no effective technical support to actually resolve them. For a game that players have invested so much money into (even if the base game is now free), the expectation is that problems of this scale should be addressed and fixed quickly.

  • sydney3kidney short4u  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
