Sims 4 won’t open

I just updated my game as of 05/26/2025, and the game will run but it will not let me play it. I can see the game is running on my task manager but whenever I try clicking on the icon, it will just bring me right back to my computer screen like the game is running in the background. It just loads on the main menu screen, and I can hear the music playing before it kicks me back to the main menu.

I have absolutely no mods or custom content, and have bought a few packs legitimately through Steam. I’ve restarted my computer, moved my Saves files from the game’s files to the desktop, and even verified to see if the game is corrupted but nothing is working. I can play any other game with no issue but my Sims game will not work.

The link below is the video I took to show how it is not working. Please help me figure this out, I’ve literally been trying for hours.

  • Are you presenting your screen or something? When I try to open the game while presenting my screen, the game immediately just kicks me out but doesn't close.

No, I’m just trying to play it normally. I’m not streaming or recording it, just trying to play it on my own time.

  • EscarlateJem  Try forcing the game to open in windowed mode.  Go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, open Options.ini, search for fullscreen , and set it to 0 (zero).

If that doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Here is my dxdiag. I will say the game also apparently automatically updated again today as of 05/27/2025 and I have not checked again to see if that update solved the problem, but hopefully the dxdiag will also be helpful. Thank you!!

  • EscarlateJem  The Sims 4 errors in your dxdiag are pretty generic, not really any help here.  I do see that your computer's graphics driver is somewhat old though, so it's worth updating.  You can use the newest driver from Nvidia:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/245674/

Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart your computer after installing and before trying to play.

If that doesn't help, even after the patch, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs, that is if you can get that far.
