Sims 4 won't open since 3/20 update-- only opens EA app instead

Everytime I click on Sims 4 either from desktop or the EA app, the EA app will close (as it's supposed to), there will be a a moment of loading, and then the EA app just reopens. I've repaired the game, I've removed the mods folder, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the EA app, I've cleared my cache, and I've restarted my computer several times. The game was working perfectly fine earlier this week until I updated on Friday, and now it won't open. Other people have this issue too I notice across here and Reddit with no adequate fixes given, and there's no way to contact EA directly about the issue. Sims 2, in contrast, works completely fine. I've attached a video of what it's doing (don't mind the wallpaper lol)

  • ghoulesq  Please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If that doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Please also let me know what antivirus you use, and whether OneDrive is running on this computer, even if you never use it.

It opens up that way; does that mean a save file is corrupted, and furthermore is that related to the For Rent corruption bug I keep hearing about? I haven't downloaded any new mods, and it was running fine earlier that same week.

I meant to add OneDrive is not running and I don't believe I have antivirus on this computer outside of Windows Defender

  • ghoulesq  If the game works fine in the new user folder, the next step is to test your mods and custom content in the new folder.  Do so in batches, or use the 50/50 method:

Once you've sorted through your mods and cc, you can move over your saves and Tray files.  Saves are unlikely to prevent the game from opening at all, but if you find you can't get to the Main Menu with the saves present, remove your most recent save, by modified date, and try again.

Should I move the game back into the documents file? I did test it before without the mods folder and it didnt work at all.

This is a newer computer so I don't mind deleting the save files completely as well if you think that might save time.
