Sims4 crashes soon after opening, error msg.

Hi, it's me again, with an all new issue. yay 😞

OK, after 2 more "official" updates, I tried a a repair just as a "let's see what happens." The game actually started, it took longer than usual, but it did start, the main screen came up finally and I was actually able to go into the options menu and unclick the auto-download button and save that choice. BUT>>>soon after that an error message popped up:

TS4_x64.exe-Application error:

The instruction at 0x000000001B967D7F referenced memory at 0x00000001064000000.

The memory could not be read.

Click ok to terminate.

I clicked ok (had no choice), but the game was already shut down.

Anyone know what I can do now? I am not at all tech savvy, so dumb it WAY down for me 😃

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Val

  • @delaney75  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If that doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

@puzzlezaddict Thanks a bunch for replying.

I think I have it set to what you call a "clean folder"  I have my old saved stuff folder on my desktop. The issues i had before, I got rid of all my previous games and such and now it's like I just bought it and never played...a virgin game. There is no saved content yet at all. I haven't gotten to the point to be able to start a game at all.  Not sure what playing in live mode means...told you, I am not tech savvy lol (sorry!)

I did figure out how to run the dxdiag, I attached the file 🙂

Thanks! for any and all help!  Val

@delaney75  The dxdiag crashed while running multiple times, and the report is missing a lot of info.  This could be a fluke in theory, but there are also a few Windows errors listed at the end.  So I would suggest going straight to a repair install, rather than trying the intermediate steps first.  This is the cleanest version of Windows you can get without wiping your computer.

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/repair-install-windows-11-with-an-in-place-upgrade.418/

This shouldn't delete your data, but if you get to step 14 and are NOT asked to keep personal files and apps, back out and start over.

Once you've run the repair install, please try again to play, and if you can't, please provide a new dxdiag.  Some of the missing information could be critical.

Please also link the HP download page for your computer.  Go here:

    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/desktops

Enter your serial number, choose your OS (just Windows 11 is fine) if asked, and you'll land on the driver download page.  Please link it here.  That page doesn't contain any information about your own computer, just the overall model.

Live mode refers to when sims are walking around doing stuff, as opposed to Create a Sim or Build/Buy mode.

@puzzlezaddict Hey, I finally got everything downloaded and tried...and it is also a no go. The game started and ran for enough time that i could get into the options, but then it froze...like usual I thought, but nope....my WHOLE COMPUTER FROZE, ugh!!!! I had to do a hard restart. Once I restarted, I ran the dxdiag and I attached it...I hope it can give you an idea of anything orwhatever...at this point I have no idea what I'm doing LOL it makes my head spin.

I just hate that I have spent so much money on all these game packs, ugh!

    Thanks a bunch! V

@delaney75  Your dxdiag crashed again when running, which is not a good sign.  I would suggest running a malware scan next.  I'm not saying your computer definitely has a virus, only that it's a reasonable possibility at this point.  Download Malwarebytes (the free trial is fine) from here:

    https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download

Open it, click Scan > Custom Scan > Configure Scan, check all the boxes both for all scan types and any drive listed (C, for sure, and any other that appears), and let it do its job.  This could take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the amount of data and whether the scan finds anything., so you may want to set it to run while you're doing something else.  Please attach its report so I can take a look.

@delaney75  Malwarebytes didn't find anything, which is of course good, but it also means the Sims 4 issue and the dxdiag crashing are unexplained.  So I would suggest running a repair install of Windows.  But before proceeding, please make sure you have enough space.  (Your dxdiag would normally report this, but the information is missing from both files due to the crashes.)  Open a File Explorer window and click This PC, and you'll see the free and total storage for each drive.  If you see less than 25 GB free on C, you'll need to clear more before running the repair install.

If you have enough space, follow this guide:

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/repair-install-windows-11-with-an-in-place-upgrade.418/

This shouldn't delete any of your data, but if you get to step 14 and are NOT asked to keep personal files and apps, back out and start over.

Once you've run the repair install, try again to play.  If you get another crash, create a new admin Windows account and try playing in that.  If the game crashes yet again, please run a new dxdiag, which will hopefully contain all the relevant information.

Just in case the new dxdiag is missing some info, please list the current free and total space (check again after the most recent crash).  Please also look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash, specifically in the new account.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.
