SIMS4 WILL NOT LAUNCH

I haven't played in a while, but I jumped on and everything was working like normal, and then one day while I was playing, my laptop died in the middle of my game (low battery) and ever since then, I can't get my game to launch. At first, it would tell me "Failure to launch" and to try again later. well now it has been almost a week of me trying new things every day. I even downloaded steam and tried to access it through there. Now, I press play from the Steam app, then it opens the EA app (i linked my accounts) and then, nothing. It just says, "Launching game..." and then "preparing game" and then nothing.

I am not tech-savvy, and I feel like I have tried everything. I have spent a lot of money and time on my game and this whole thing has been really frustrating.

I have attached my DxDiag

  • nicolesher0210  Thanks for the dxdiag.  I don't see anything that would definitely explain the Sims 4 issue, although there are some generic Windows errors worth cleaning up.  So please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

For the Sims 4 issue itself, if the above doesn't help, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  If it copies instead of moving, or you get an error when trying to move it, stop here and let me know.

Otherwise, when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs, that is if you can get that far.

thank you, so when I did the second window system check, the message it gave me was "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." and I followed all of the steps. I restarted, and it did have me do an update, so I restarted again. and then I moved the folder to my desktop and it still seems to be doing the same thing. it says it is preparing the game and then just stops and doesn't do anything else.

  • nicolesher0210  Do you have some sort of Steam family sharing enabled?  If so, please disable it for now; these services aren't compatible with EA games.

Please also repair the game in Steam: Sims 4 > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of the game files.

Other than that, please create a new admin Windows account and try playing there.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account or any email address.  You'll be able to (try to) launch Sims 4 without reinstalling anything, but your saves and other user data won't be available.

I have brought this up in this forum before and i tried everything recommended to me to fix my issue with the game not launching. I'm so frustrated. I love this game and have spent countless hours playing it and have spent a lot of money on the packs. I don't think i ever would have done that had i known that i could just randomly lose all of my progress and not be able to get back into my game with my purchased packs. I don't know what else to do. I am not computer savvy with the technical side of things and i just want to play my game. also, customer support seems very nonexistent and I can't find help anywhere.

I agree with you 100% they need better  ..well they need customer support, cuz they don't have one.. we spend too much $ on these games for them NOT to.. this is CRAZY coming from such a big company as EA. You'd think they be on it with tech support. but NOOOO

  • nicolesher0210  I've merged your new post with your old thread to keep all the info together.  Please try my previous suggestions, and if they don't help, post a new dxdiag.
