Start up issue

Hi There,

I've been having a problem with starting up Sims 4. Very frustrating after the last update in April.

I have deleted and reinstalled my game and add-ons. repaired and deleted all my mods and even deleted the Overwolf/Curseforge application. I've tried running my system on Dx9,11 and 12 but no joy. I do have Nvidia but from what I've seen from what people have posted there was some issue with that. I'm no computer fundi, so have no real idea what I'm doing.

Basically, my game doesn't reach the main menu to enter my saves, it keeps cutting out. I've been playing sims 3 in the meantime to ease my addiction.

I would appreciate some assistance.

With the birthday special that happened I wasn't even able to participate as why purchase something I can't use...

  • MCWait  Please remove your saves folder from Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and see whether you can play.  If this helps, you likely have this issue:

Crashes on Mainmenu | EA Forums - 12139111

If his doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

rebekahssims  Did you delete the saves folder as well?  If not, please remove it now.  If that doesn't or didn't help, please provide a dxdiag, as described above.

Mine is doing the exact same thing! I've followed the same steps you have, removed mods, repaired and reinstalled, nothing's working. It'll get to the spinning plumbob loading screen and then freeze up and just close before it even hits the menu. Super frustrating!!

Yes I did but still didn't work. I've messaged you.

    Thank you

  • rebekahssims  I got your dxdiag and see a few crashes of a component of TotalAV Ultimate Antivirus.  So please uninstall it, temporarily of course.  Repair the game (EA App > Sims 4 > Manage > Repair), and test it once with the antivirus removed.  As long as you don't do anything else while testing, your computer should be safe.

If this works, you can reinstall the AV, but before trying to play again, set exceptions for TS4_x64, TS4_DX9_x64, and TS4_Launcher_x64, or the entire Bin folder they're in.  Set an exception for EADesktop.exe as well while you're there.

It would also be reasonable to not reinstall the software at all.  Windows Defender is good enough for most home users, and it's free, and its rate of false positives is much lower than third-party software.

Thank you for you're help but I have uninstalled the Antivirus, repaired, reset laptop, deleted anything and everything but still crashes on the launch.

Frustrated isn't the word at this point.

  • rebekahssims  Please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

There’s no errors just information event of Microsoft defender antivirus (summary:successful windows update).
