The Sims won't start after the recent update.
Hello,
Since the recent update, I have been experiencing an issue where the Sims logo appears briefly when trying to launch the game, and then the game automatically closes without starting (no error message appears).
I have updated all my drivers, and I’ve tried reinstalling The Sims after deleting it, as well as launching it in offline mode. I also backed up my saves, tray, and mode files to another location and tried running the game in clear mode, but it still didn’t work. And I attempted to run the game with only the original version installed, without any additional content. I tried using the repair button in the EA app to fix the issue, but unfortunately, this didn’t work either.
I’ve even uninstalled OneDrive, and I have ensured that all EA-related apps and The Sims are allowed through the firewall.
I really want to play The Sims, and since I have paid for the game, I would greatly appreciate it if EA could provide a quick and accurate resolution to this issue.
Please help me.
Thank you for your assistance.
kayo0121 The Sims 4 errors in your dxdiag are all breakpoint errors, which have a few causes, the game running out of memory and a bad graphics driver being the most common. Your computer has more than enough RAM and a sufficiently large page file that the first shouldn't be an issue unless you're running a lot of other apps at the same time, so let's start with the second.
To that end, please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the graphics driver, as described here:
If that doesn't help, please try playing in a clean boot:
The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run. Disable the rest as described.
When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled. If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.
Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.
If this helps, you can selectively reenable services until you find the culprit, then either leave that disabled or (if it belongs to an app you want to keep using) let me know what it is so we can try to fix the underlying issue.
If the game freezes or crashes in a clean boot, please try again, except with your computer offline (again). You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.
