- AnonymousI would say if you saw this Carl's Sims Guide video essay and agreed with it, you're solidly in option 2. If you enjoy Sims 4 over Sims 2/3's system, you enoy the pure sandbox model and are in option 1.

- crocobauraSeasoned AceI want to make my own story, as in create a sim with traits, likes, dislikes, etc. that work as intended and take it from there. Meet other sims and befriend them or make enemies based on personality and whatever happens between them. But it shouldn't be in a world where everyone is at work strictly from 9 to 5 and then goes straight home after work with no time for chit chat and if they go to a bar they get stuck in the elevator.

I'm with you - I like to have traits, likes, and other personality attributes be front and center and play personality-driven (and wants-driven). This requires some relevant consequences and drama that are reactions to behaviors and choices. Sims should feel different to play and also react to one another. - logionXSeasoned VanguardA lot of things that people seem to remember with sims, and associate with sims are things that happened in the game to them in a reactive environment.
When I first started playing the sims4 the things that made me play a lot was creating scenarios, putting sims together in different situations and see what happened and see if there was different outcomes.
Unfortunately, since The Sims 4 is more of a sandbox, the outcomes were not that much different. - ChadSims2Seasoned NewcomerI'm with those who say they want to see traits, likes, dislikes help define Sims actions when not actively playing them. Now I don't see any hope with Sims 4 traits seeing as they just are not that deep or impact the game at all which is why Sims 5 needs go deep into them and add meaningful behaviors and animations to each trait.
Say for example the Party Animal trait "These Sims tend to enjoy parties and letting every other Sim know by hyping up a crowd and performing party tricks." In Sims 4 they are not going to do either of these things unless I do it myself and they should. Also what do these party animals do outside of parties should the carefree party animal act like it outside parties with some type of behaviors and simply just have parties come up more often in conversation.
Sims behaviors are another reason why an attraction system + turn on turn off system should be base game and not an expansion feature or something patched in years later. Let the player decide is their Sim strong on commitment or a cheater looking for love or love to be single once the player sets these things the Sims can play out. - cb2342zNew SpectatorWhy not both? For some saves, I just want to mess around. For others, I prefer as much realism as possible. It's as simple as having settings for it.
- DestroyerSimsSeasoned NoviceI would much prefer a more reactive and dynamic environment, but in the end there should be some sort of option to change this kind of stuff (such as a "difficulty slider").
- Beardedgeek72New SpectatorA.. switch maybe? I do sometimes miss Sims 2 (sim 1 was TOO hard, it was a proper "game" where if you left your sim unattended for more than 2 seconds they starved to death, died from bad hygiene or got electrocuted).
- EmeraldEylesRising TravelerI realise I may be in the minority with this, but I am almost wholly a sandbox player. I don't necessarily mind the game throwing me the odd curveball so long as I ultimately remain in control of my characters and story. One of the reasons I didn't start playing Sims 4 until 2020 was that I had previously tried to play Sim City in the 90s, and I absolutely hated it. I wanted to build my Sim City, even if it made absolutely no sense, but it felt so constraining to have to put the roads in first, and the electricity, and whatever else needed to be done before I actually got to any sort of creative part.
