Wrong sudden death penalty results in European Career Mode
Platform: [PS5 / Xbox / PC]
Mode: Career Mode (Manager Career and Player Career)
Competition Type: European competitions (knockout rounds, second leg)
Issue Type: Gameplay / Progression bug
Frequency: Happened twice on different occasions
Summary:
Incorrect penalty shootout results in European competitions when the match is decided in sudden death.
Description:
In both Manager Career and Player Career, there is a recurring bug during European competition knockout matches when the aggregate score remains level after the second leg and the tie goes to a penalty shootout.
I have experienced this on two different occasions. The issue seems to happen specifically after the initial 5 penalties per team, once the shootout enters sudden death.
During sudden death, the game appears to stop correctly registering goals scored by the away team. Because of this, the final penalty score shown after the match can be completely incorrect and may even reverse the actual result of the shootout.
Example 1:
I was the away team and won the shootout 13-12, but after the match ended, the game showed that I had lost 6-12 instead.
Example 2:
I was the home team in Player Career Mode. We lost the shootout 11-12, the opposing team celebrated on the pitch, and the locker room cutscene also showed them celebrating as if they had advanced. However, once I returned to the game menu, the result incorrectly showed that we won the shootout 11-6, even though we had actually been eliminated.
This bug can cause the wrong team to be declared the winner of the penalty shootout, which incorrectly determines who advances in the European knockout round. It is a serious progression-breaking issue in Career Mode.
This issue also existed in previous FIFA / EA SPORTS FC titles, so it may be a long-standing bug that has not been fully fixed.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start a Career Mode save (Manager Career or Player Career).
2. Play a European competition knockout tie.
3. Finish the second leg with the aggregate score level.
4. Go to a penalty shootout.
5. Reach sudden death after the first 5 penalties per team.
6. Observe the final result shown after the shootout ends.
Expected Result:
The final penalty shootout score should correctly register every sudden death penalty and the correct team should advance.
Actual Result:
During sudden death, the game may fail to correctly register away team penalties, resulting in an incorrect final score and, in some cases, the wrong team being shown as the winner or advancing.
