I am having a similar issue. Only it is also the TV and the play with toy parts of the challenge as well. I removed all the stuff animals from the lot and yet no matter how long I have the child watch tv or play with a toy from the toybox it doesn't get completed. Same when I sent here to school. I have exited to the main menu and reloaded the game, closed the game and then logged back in and even pressed repair game in the app. Still these three tasks will not seem to get marked off as complete. I also reported it to IT and put in a claim. Stinks because I wanted the imagination reward and the pj.
I have the same problem. I can't complete either the TV task or the toybox task, even though the child completes them easily.

NovaPaladin Did you try in a new, mod-free save? Play through the whole day so they leave for work/school and then return home - and don’t cancel the “return home” action or queue anything on top of it, let them fully complete it.

This event is particuarly bugged in some ways, or at least with tasks that are poorly explained. It's nothing to do with CC itself.
What did it for me was that the stuffed friend had to be on the household lot, not the inventory. In my particular case, I didn't have school-aged children with the household I played. I had a servo and an adult with babies and a toddler (one, which I aged up specifically to complete the event, only to realize it was easier with an adult). When the event completed, for some reason the notification only chose the servo for whatever narrative it closed with, even though the adult was the one to complete the tasks. Either way, that's what worked when I couldn't finish it with the work task either in the rabbithole or completing the job in person.
