can't connect to galley/online (steam+ea app)

i play the game via both steam and ea connected. i have not been able to connect online, even though i do have an internet connection. both steam and ea are all updated and can connect online to so i don't know why i can't. when i try get into the marketplace or galley no matter how long i wait it doesn't connect.

i have now missed the items from the 3 previous events, even though ive logged in continuously tried to collect the items. i tired a few fixes, like better or worse internet connection, clearing the cache, deleting and reinstalling the sims and fixing any files but it still wont work. i dont have any mods or CC installed and ive got expansion packs on both steam and ea, which is why i used them connected.
