I entered both a dragon fruit and a pie in the same fair to be judged. I received a notification that my pie had won first place and to check my inventory. I had no ribbon or any prizes, and both my dragon fruit and my pie were gone as well.
No Mods/CC in game.

Also forgot to mention -- it also did not complete the win a competition milestone under the country caretaker aspiration
Update -- I received the ribbon and dragon fruit back only after going to and coming back from the bar in the same neighborhood that the fair is in (this is also where my house is). At the time of the fair I submitted from my house. The aspiration still did not complete though.
