I've encountered the same issue on PC. I can't even open the event page. When I click the EVENTS button on the home page, the screen just flashes once as if a window is going to pop up but closes right away. I suppose it is the event window, because I can see the close button in the top-right corner the moment it flashes.
Also, all items in the Gallery keep loading and eventually turn into red X. I've also found that the game launching speed becomes much slower than before.
All these issues started after the latest update. I wonder if they are related? I have tried removing all mods, verifying game files on Steam, clearing cache, logging out and back in to EA account, adding all related executable files into the whitelist, and turning off all firewalls and antivirus. But the issues persist.

That very much sounds like antivirus. What are you using and what did you turn off ? It's not safe to turn off firewalls and antivirus programs so it's best to turn those back on and check the settings instead.
Can you post a screenshot of where you added the exceptions ?
Hi I'm using the built-in Windows Defender. I temporarily turned off the firewall and antivirus for testing, and the problems still occur. Here are screenshots of the exception list. My system is in Chinese but I have added TS4_x64.exe, EADesktop.exe, and Steam.exe to the list and I have also allowed them in Controlled folder access.
Can you try the following
When on the main Ransomware protection page, click on the last option (mine's German)
Then check if there's any entries there (I only have an old one but it'll do for explaining). If you have any entries, click to expand
If there's any exe's related to Sims that haven't been added, do it under 'Actions'
I checked the protection history, but there are no Sims related entries at all.
