My sim keeps trying to light the fireplace when it is on auto light. I have four fireplaces in the house so he just goes to one room to another and keeps trying to light them. He even stops what he is doing sometimes like taking a bath, watching tv, or raising his skill level just to go try and light the fireplace, again that on auto light! lol

I had this pop up today. NPC turned playable sim by move in. Windows 11. PC. EA APP. I've notice the generic sims obsession with constantly lighting fireplaces noted in other bug threads, but this is the first time the exact situation has occurred mentioned in OP's post. FWIW, it's the Toasty Warm Fireplace and only one sim in the household seems be affected. He stops what he's doing, goes into the room with the fireplace and attempts to light it, stopping short when autolight occurs and then goes back to what he was doing, only to start the process again.
I see people have been experiencing this for quite some time now... does EA have any plans to fix their broken game any time soon or...???
I just started a brand new save on console, no mods or cc. Playing with the Goth family. Two fireplaces in the base game home. They all repeatedly wanted to light the fireplace, I kept cancelling the action. Since I have autonomy on for non-active Sims, they managed to light the fireplace in some kind of stealth operation. Both those fireplaces are going. Here's to hoping they stay alive and don't die in a fire from their obsession.
This one's so weird. My sims just started doing this, and it was a hot day.

This happens to all my sims too. One household I had 4 fireplaces and she went to light all of them. 🤦♀️
I've noticed this same issue with all my households and lots that have fireplaces. If the Sim is set to autonomous, or the Sim is a visitor on the lot and the fireplace is not lit, they make a beeline to the fireplace to light it. I'm playing on Xbox. This issue has been around for a while (over a year minimum).
