Seems you did get the pajama though, right ? You only didn't get the potion you can also just buy ?
To clarify the process/error: I'm playing the PC version via the EA app. I own all the packages. Mods are active in my game, but none that should directly affect children and their activities. I received the aforementioned pajamas because they weren't the final reward. I'm simply missing 10 EP for the potion at the end. See also the screenshot. I've played/completed all the event quests except for the final, optional one. Even though I have "Growing Together," there was unfortunately no room on the lot for a treehouse. But optional event quests shouldn't affect the final result.
Edit: I'm just seeing your note: So, is a full score really only possible with the optional tasks? Then that's poorly managed, because the last optional task disappears when the last regular task is completed. As a player, I don't even know what the last regular task is, do I? So I would expect something like "Event is over, do you still want to complete the optional task?" to appear.
You can get this potion through the game and those are just some extra one time rewards in one family. It's been like that for the last event as well and is just some extra perk to do the optional ones as well (this is without judgment whether this is a good thing to do or not). This was communicated in their last event blog (not sure if it's in this one too)
You should however be able to get the rewards that come with this event without doing the optional tasks cause all you should need for those is the base game. So there's certainly something wrong if you don't get the pajamas.
