The save game starts to disintegrate itself. Lots start to get deleted, causing endless loading, loading into empty lots.
This happens to save games that have lots of R-rental units in all world.
When posting here, please state if you used cheats or mods to up the max.

I have had to restart and delete many saves for MONTHS. This is honestly so annoying and they barely have addressed it. And you're right, "don't use residential rentals" is horrible advice, if that's the case they need to temporarily take it off the EA app until they fix it. But I doubt EA would ever sacrifice losing a couple of bucks so that they can take the time to fix the games they push.
A while ago I noticed that neighbouring lots were reverting back to default. This was then followed by an endless loading screen in one of the Chestnut Ridge neighbourhoods that I was decorating with new lots. More recently, Willow Creek has began to completely disintegrate. First of all lots started disappearing, when I tried to replace one of them I got an Error 800 which took me straight out to the main menu. Another lot I've just tried loads endlessly.
I use one to two residential lots in every world, there may be more than that in a couple of the newer ones. I never, ever use mods or CC. I download lots from the gallery but that's it. My save file is very large as I like to build my game up with detailed lots.
I've spent so much time on this save file and I am honestly so close to quitting the game. All the money I've spent on DLC so that I can have detailed, beautiful lots, wasted. I'm so upset that I've acted entirely within the game's parameters but now my game is telling me it can't cope with that.
If we disable the For Rent expansion, are we safe from this bug?
Unfortunately no. This bug happened before the Rent DLC. There were exclamation mark above the lot for no reason. Usually starts in Willow Creek then spreads quickly if you click on the lot. The whole neighborhood will sometimes go back to the default lots and will sometime throw Error 800/801 OR infinite loading screens. A few updates ago, EA/Maxis decided to remove the exclamation marks leaving players baffled. One of the EA employees said he would look look into but never did. This bug remains the biggest if not a game destroying bug.
Dang, that's scary. My save is as old as TS4. Of course I have backups, but still. This sounds like a TS4 apocalyptic bug. Completely destroys the whole TS4 world!
I heard about this issues, but I never played with rental units, and to be honest, I'm scared to even use them now until it gets fixed (Which I don't know how long)

On a new save created on the latest version or an already corrupted one? Because it takes a while before it starts happening. But it will...
you don't need to actually play with them, just have them in your game...
