[FR] 'Do Inspection' appears on residential lots after owning rental units
Issue Description:
After a Sim purchases or owns a Residential Rental lot (becoming a property owner), Sims living on a standard residential lot (without the Maintenance Troubles lot challenge active) gain the ability to “Do Inspection and Maintenance” on plumbing objects and appliances. This interaction is intended only for Residential Rental lots and should not appear on standard residential lots.
Expected Behavior:
The “Do Inspection and Maintenance” interaction should only appear on:
- Residential Rental lots where the player owns the rental property
- Lots with the Maintenance Troubles lot challenge active
It should not appear on standard residential lots, especially those without the Maintenance Troubles challenge.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Have a Sim purchase or own a Residential Rental lot (become a property owner).
- Return to the Sim’s standard residential lot (not a rental, no Maintenance Troubles lot challenge).
- Click on any plumbing object (toilet, sink, shower) or appliance (stove, fridge, etc.).
- Observe the interaction menu.
Actual Result:
The interaction menu includes “Do Inspection and Maintenance” as an available option. The interaction appears even though:
- The lot is a standard residential lot
- The lot does not have the Maintenance Troubles lot challenge active
- There are no rental units on the lot
- No maintenance event is currently active
Additional Notes:
- The “Inspection” interaction is part of the landlord system introduced in For Rent, intended for maintaining rental units and completing the Five-Star Property Owner aspiration .
- The Maintenance Troubles lot challenge triggers random maintenance events (blight, broken appliances, cursed books, etc.) that require inspection/repair to resolve . Without this challenge active, the interaction should not appear.
- This appears to be a cross-contamination issue where owning a rental property globally enables the inspection interaction on all lots the player visits or owns.
- The issue may be related to broader For Rent bugs involving the landlord system bleeding into non-rental gameplay .
- This issue appeared after the March 2026 patch.
Impact:
Low to Moderate. The interaction appearing on residential lots is primarily a UI clutter issue — it does not prevent normal gameplay. However, it may confuse players who do not own rental properties or who have never engaged with the landlord system. It also indicates a broader issue of systems not being properly isolated to their intended lot types.
