[FR] Objects randomly catch on fire after solved cursed book event

After getting the For Rent pack recently, things in my Sim's home start combusting randomly a bit after destroying the cursed book? I can't go 10 minutes without several fires? Some are like electrical but last night her entire unit burned down because the baby's changing table combusted twice within 5 minutes?? I tried a cheat code to stop fires but it didn't work and its like. unplayable. She can't even interact with her baby when theres a fire on the lot so it was just on the floor surrounded by flames. I had to close the game because it's so annoying. I know i can play my other saves but I spent so much time on starting this for rent legacy- it's a huge bummer because I got the pack for Christmas and I can't even play it.

Is there any way to report bugs in a way where they'll get fixed?? or do I just have to yell into the void of a forum. the sims is like my favorite game and im so sad.

  • My partner, who plays on Xbox, is having this same issue. It began after a cursed book event was triggered, but she was unable to get rid of it because the book spawned in an unrented unit. She's moved lots and placed a completely different build, but random objects are still randomly catching fire every few minutes. It's made the game unplayable.

Adding my complaint to the pile. I read someone else's post about the cursed book for rent quest maybe starting the "to many fires in silly places." 6 months ago! SIX! Still not fixed. And you have to cheat money to pay for items back or the game is unplayable, cause you'll have no Simoleans. Sometimes I don't even know what burns cause the pile of ash....like what was that? Sometimes I know. Like my child's bed while they are sleeping in it, somewhere on the roof, somewhere on the wall by the computer.  So often I can't even play I log out. I was so excited about for rent and having some of my Sims together. I have many times updated, repaired, cleared cache, got rid of ALL Curseforge mods, repeated the cleaning process. I've moved. I rebuilt. I've also chatted with someone from EA. Maybe something will happen from that. I've spent a lot of money, sure others did as well,  and I don't even want to play sometimes. I'm also a Sims4 blogger....ummm...what am I supposed to chat about if I can't enjoy playing. I guess I can build? Please fix this, like in the next couple months, or offer to take out the FOR RENT pack and give people money back. I don't know much about fixing games but it feels like it should be done by order of importance, because if a bug makes a game unplayable, it should be at the top of the list. For some reason I have little faith though. It's been a "bug" for to long now. Anyway I really hope I'm wrong and it will be fixed soon. I miss enjoying my Sims.

I'm playing with legacy family, I've been playing with this family for the past month and only started having this issue after last update. I have a fireplace in every room - every one of them is upgraded with a fireplace cover to reduce a risk of putting house on fire, additionally there's a campfire outside. During one sim day I got fire six times - even though I've removed all furniture from near the fireplaces and campfire. Literally everything started to catch a fire - chandelier placed two squares from a fireplace, trees and now just floor and grass (and by grass I don't mean any decorative bush or flowers, literal terrain grass is burning).

  • Hi!

I have one issue that just recently started to happen, and it started right after I made my lot from small business residential to rental residential. Then some random fires started to happen from time to time, only on tables and "tree-made" stuff. I then moved my family to another lot in Nordhaven, and it was fine for some hours, and then BOOM. Random fires again, and of course only on one part of the house. A cabinet, nothing close to any fire sources and stuff.. I have checked everything and also made the "fear of fire" gone by the elixir. I do not use any mods or stuff, and this issue I did not have before, is what I can remember. What do I do?

  • I've had the same issue a while after solving the cursed book event. Really really frustrating, fires were popping up every sim hour or so. Repairing the game didn't help. Using the cheat to disable all fires also didnt help.

I managed to fix it by doing the following (not sure which step actually fixed it or if it was a combination of several of them:

    • evict all tenants
    • upload lot to gallery
    • bulldoze lot and download from gallery
    • change lot to residential then back to rental
    • move tennants back in
    • in game setting, disabled option for rental events to happen

    Hope this helps someone.
