Ideas
In build and buy mode, placing certain objects causes the game to freeze then crash. In particular, I have found that the new base game cabinets, dream home decorator desks, and lockers are a few stand out item, but a few others also cause this. This lost me a few hours of time because I hadn't saved recently.
I think this is it.

Either try to update your drivers or switch to DX11.
