Game freezes/crashes when loading into lots in Chestnut Ridge

I am playing the standard edition of the game with all packs installed and I'm on the latest update.

When attempting to enter lots in Chestnut Ridge, the game loads for a few seconds, freezes, the program stops responding and then I need to force quit the game. I've tried waiting for the game to respond, it doesn't happen.

This happens when visiting lots from live mode (while living in another world) or entering from manage worlds. I have tested and experienced this issue both with and without mods, and on old and new saves. I've tested most lots in the world, and at least one from each neighbourhood, but the process of loading-crashing-loading-crashing got a bit infuriating so I haven't tested every single one.

Once, while testing without mods, I was able to load into one of the lots (I'm pretty sure it was the bar) but that was after a very long freeze on the loading screen into the lot. All my other testing with mods removed has resulted in a freeze followed by the game not responding and then having to be force quit.

I have searched google and all of the sims discord servers I'm in but haven't found anyone else experiencing quite the same issue. I don't think it's related to the latest update or pack because I recall this happening a couple of months ago as well. At that time I just moved the sim to a different world and figured if it was a bug it would be patched. I hadn't tried going back to Chestnut Ridge again until last week.

when you say user folder, does that mean the entire Sims 4 folder in My Documents > Electronic Arts? I'll give it a try as soon as I can and let you know how it goes.

  • So I renamed my Sims 4 folder and let the game generate a new one, the issue definitely still persists. 2 seconds of loading, permanent freeze, then I have to force quit with task manager.

Would next steps be to try reinstalling? I repaired my game recently for an unrelated issue and that has had no impact on the Chestnut Ridge crashes for me.

    Hi InspectorBubble

See you are way ahead but yes, that was I meant. On the new folder, did you not put anything back and had the same issue on a new save game too or did you copy back your save game ?

Could you post your Computer's DxDiag?

    - Press Windows-Key + R
    - Type: DxDiag
    - Click on Save all Information.
    - Attach the Text File to your post

    Hi InspectorBubble

there's a lot of windows update errors. They probably don't have much to do with the issue but could you try the following.

    1. Hit Windows key and X.
    2. Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” or "Windows Terminal (Administrator)", whichever option is offered.
    3. Inside PowerShell, CMD or Terminal enter (copy and paste) “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Checkhealth” without quotes. > ENTER.
    4.  If errors are found, notify us. If no errors were found repeat steps 1 & 2.
    5.  Inside PowerShell, CMD or Terminal enter “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes. > ENTER.
    6. The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here.
    7. After it reaches 100% repeat steps 1 & 2.
    8. Inside PowerShell, CMD or Terminal enter “sfc /scannow” without quotes > ENTER.
    9. Post the message you receive at the end of the processes here.

Also try repairing the game through EA app and update your graphics drivers.
