I am using the same bunk bed as your first picture, so I tried changing the swatch and I also see the gray boxes on all but the last four swatches.
All the other swatches have three gray boxes in the spots where some of the art is on the last four swatches. It seems like the last four swatches have six pieces of art and the other swatches have three pieces of gray.
