Update: I got a brand new computer and reinstalled the game completely without any mods or saves from my previous games. Everything is super 'fresh' and the problem still occurs! This is so weird. I play on mac, might this be part of it? STILL BROKEN on 21/02/2025 after the Lovestruck update in July 2024.
