I realized had the "photos turning black" issue last week (before the patch) and rolled back to a previous save that I had backed up. Last night I was playing again and noticed all the photos were now in low resolution.
Is it true that the blurry photos are a result of the January 13 patch, and, if fixed, I should still see the high resolution versions if I restore a save from prior to January 13? I'm hoping that I still have the high resolution versions of the photo in one of the backed up saves, which go back to the beginning of December.
The current game engine loads custom images (photos, paintings etc) at much lower resolutions then it did a year ago, all of them will load blurry from a save where they're actually stored at the original higher resolution, and if you save it'll be locked in.
This is something the EA staff did on purpose and we need to convince them that its not the right solution, it wrecks them and they look terrible now. We need them to do better and give us the option to continue using the original better resolution images if we want to with our saves.

I understand what you're saying about the game engine loading photos/painting "at much lower resolutions then it did a year ago," but do you know around what date/update the saves would have started locking us in with the low resolution versions? This thread goes back about 4 months but I had been playing all through December with a household that was taking a lot of photos and didn't notice anything was wrong until this week.
I'm just trying to figure out if any of the saves I have backed up, which go back to the start of December, would still have the higher resolution versions of the in-game photos intact. If EA decides to revert whatever they changed, I can just start playing again with one of the old saves, even if I lose a little bit of gameplay. I'd wait to save again until there is a fix so I don't overwrite with the low resolutions version, and be "locked in," as you mention. Hopefully that makes sense...

Roughly speaking I think it was a patch in Feb 2025 that started nerfing the resolution of in-game images. Photos specifically, then somewhere I think in August they did the same to the rest of the in-game images like paint-by-reference and other misc ones.
I have a save from December 2024 and in it I can see images saved at resolutions like 576x1024 (large painting I think) and 768x576 (Medium photo in landscape) and such. Now they don't get higher then 192x256 (large photo).

I noticed the change the day I made the original post. According to a Discord post I made on the subject that was 8/27/25. I'd played about a month/little less than a month before that, and I'm pretty sure there was one patch in there?? I assumed it was after that patch. I don't know about paint by ref paintings, but I know for sure that photos weren't bad quality before that. At least mine weren't.
