Inconsistent behavior with Friezes and spandrels

mandacaju  I did a test build to test the issue.  How I tested was I drew a large room then a smaller room inside of the larger room.  I placed the friezes first, then added the spandrels.  Two of the spandrels placed as they should below the frieze but the other two placed at the height they would normally place without the frieze.  I had to break the outer wall to place the friezes around the inner room in the first place.  When I drew the wall I deleted back, the friezes went invisible and left the spandrels at the level that they were since the friezes were still there even though you can't see them.  So, I had a room with spandrels at two different heights.  But they worked together just fine for me when on the exterior wall.  Friezes aren't supposed to be used indoors though and therein lies the problem.  You are trying to do something that was not intended to be done when the build system was designed so this is not a bug as they work just fine when you use them together as they are intended to be used.

I agree with you that using friezes inside would be something nice to be able to do given we have no ceiling moldings (Crown, Dental, etc.).  Although, I would rather have ceiling moldings added instead that are designed to be used on the inside of rooms.  And base moldings added as well.

Thanks CGrant56 . Can you elaborate on friezes aren't supposed to be used indoors? Is this a previous statement from EA?  'Exterior Trims' has exterior in the name, I get it. Of course, I would love moldings but if I could at least keep using what used to work, I would already be happy 😅

mandacaju   There's not much to elaborate on really.  No, EA has made no statement that I know of. They have never worked indoors in a vanilla game.  They only work on the outside of an exterior wall.  You can't even select one to apply on an interior wall.  It just goes invisible and won't place.  Basically, friezes are designed to be used just like their RL counterparts.  Outside, you use friezes at the top of the highest wall just under the roof line or in combination with spandrels on roofed porches.  Indoors, you use moldings at the top of walls where they meet the ceiling.  In almost all cases moldings are much smaller than friezes although they can look the same.  Dental friezes and molding are widely used and are identical, just different sizes for instance.  Although, in some building styles moldings can be larger depending on the era the building style was in fashion.  In the game, there are times though when friezes will intrude into a build if the game sees the wall on the inside or around the stairwell as part of the exterior wall.  Stacked open stairwells where one or two walls are the exterior walls are good for that.  But mostly, that depends on the order in which the builder does things.  

I can understand why you might want to use them since we don't have ceiling moldings.  I wouldn't simply because the majority of them are too big, and you can't scale them down to an appropriate size.  It's just one of those beauty in the eye of the beholder type of things.  Bottom line is if you want to use them, that's your choice.  All I was trying to say was they weren't designed to work that way and that is why you got the weirdness with them so it's not a bug, that's all.

Thank you for your suggestion. I will request this as a feature. I also believe that if it's possible to do (even if not intentionally), the behaviour should be stable in all attempts - either it should be removed or behave consistently.

I have never had this issue before but when placing freezes on my build, they come up in some places inside the house. I tried completely starting over on the build and it worked until I started building interior rooms and the freezes starting popping up inside the house again. I am on PS4.

bluqueen925​ That has been happening since the game was new.  Friezes do that and is one of the quirks of how the build system works.  Usually. it's associated with a stairway along an exterior wall but can happen in other places. The way to deal with it to delete the parts of the frieze on the inside that you don't want.  I play on PC, so I don't know the command for that on the consoles.  On PC, it's hold shift while using the sledgehammer one tile at the time.

I have never had this happen before. I will have to check if it's the specific freeze or all freezes and get back on this question. As for deleting it from where I don't want it, using the sledge hammer deletes it from where I do want it as well. It takes out the entire section from inside to outside as well. I'll try moving the stairs and report back but they aren't actually on an exterior wall.

Moving the stairs also did not change anything. If there is a way to remove them tile by tile with the sledge hammer on console I am not aware if it. I will do some googling and see if I can find anything.
