Ideas
This bug is exclusive to DX11 mode so as a workaround you can switch to DX9 to assign your memorial portrait or get your graduation photo and afterwards switch back to DX11.
Switching to DX9 didn't help in my case.
But what do you mean "to switch"? just toggle the option in the settings? Because if you mean to actually toggle it AND launch the game from DX9 exe file - the game just won't work at all for me from DX9 exe.

First disable Memory Boost because as I have noticed it is linked to DirectX 11. Exit the game. Run the game again and stop at the main screen (before resuming the game). Click on the three dots in the upper right corner to access the Menu. Go to Game Options. Tick DirectX 9 (After disabling the Memory Boost this function will not be greyed out). Exit the game again. Now you can run the game on Direct X9. The funeral portraits have worked for me. I haven't tried the diplomas yet.

Never used memory boost, is it even available in the current version? In any case, switching to DirectX9 has no effect whatsoever.
The worst thing - this bug is NOT mentioned on the huge list of bugs to get fixed on November 4th. I cannot continue my game :(

Have you tried repairing the game or renaming the Sims 4 folder and then repairing the game so that it creates new files? Memory Boost is available on Windows. As I understood, it is not available on Mac. See the image below.
