Neighboring Houses show as Default/Empty

Issue

When loading into a lot, all the neighboring houses show either as an empty lot or show the default lot that comes with the game.

Loading into the lot shows the correct lot. Thumbnails on the map are also correct.

There is no endless loading.

Info

It's unclear what's happening here but I tested this on a save and found that it was only an issue for certain families. Loading the same lot with a different family showed the houses fine.

It looks like a rending issue where the game doesn't find the correct data and shows either an empty lot (if the lot comes empty on a new game) or with the house that was originally on that lot.

At this point I do not know if this is an early sign of save game corruption.

Workaround

In the save I tested, I was able to fix the issue by simply moving the affected families out and back in.

This is most similar to the issue I was having. The lots were loading for me but just the lot I clicked to load. Everything was either EA defaults or empty, as if I just started a fresh save. The correct lots still showed in the manage world screen, so they’re still there. If I click on them, they do load as the correct lot. But I don’t think it’s tied to a family though. Because the workaround I found was reverting all my residential rentals back to regular residential. Then everything was back to normal. But the minute I try to put a residential rental again, this issue would come back.

Edit I am using a Mac Book Pro with M3 chip.

I'm having a similar issue. My community lots, taverns, gyms, and libraries won't load, but I see the neighboring buildings, and when I click to travel to them, the lot will be empty. I also see they are available on the manage worlds map. Once I have actually traveled there, though, the manage words map changes and shows it as an empty lot.

With my files - I had done a file cleanup and backed everything up to an external hard drive. I was not aware that in my "Documents" folder, there was an "Electronic Arts" folder with a "The Sims 4" file. I am going back through and adding those files back to the "Documents" folder on my internal hard drive. I will let you know if this resolves the issues.

See my above comment on how I fixed it on my Mac.

This did indeed fix the issue. I was able to play and have my lots show back up.

    1.PC
    2.With/ without mods
    3. All save - all worlds

Okey, i copy my post from another topic
    1. Save size does't matter - mine is 35-40MB, willfa13 - 75MB
    2. Problems not start in Willow Creek - this is a coincidence. I never played in WC and I have this same issue
    3. We both have custom lots from the gallery/made own.
    4. Families and for rent lot:
On willfa13 saves everything worked fine until I placed TWO lots "for rent" (6 units/each)
The difference in our records is this she/he has lot of families and I have more for rent lots.
BUT in my game even if i put diffrent lot in empty lot "mystical cache" fill up and show default background lots. Solution for this is change ONE "for rent" lot into residential - same helps on willfa13 save too.
The second option is deleting homeless sims generated by the game or families which you don't play anymore - what is absurd because you want own lots and families in game!

I clean on few days homeless sims from save but i play legacy so the further the generation lasts, the more lots I have to set to residential - even clean homeless or ghosts sims stop helps.

Save is with bug. If you swap for rent to normal lot or delete families - it will work

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgrbSr_TjmI - video with bug (even not "for rent" lot)

  • No mention of that issue in the next Laundry List. I really hope they are working on it and I hope they would communicate on that issue. Adding in more and more worlds and consequently more NPCs and lots and doing nothing about it is a big risk that more and more player will face that issue.

I've been experiencing this issue with neighboring houses showing as the lot defaults, but it stopped happening in one save file where I experimented with getting rid of all of my R-rental lots by converting them into other lot types. Once they were gone, I started seeing what was actually built on neighboring lots once again. (I'm not sure if the error went away before I'd completely removed all R-rental units; I'll probably try it again with another save and pay more attention to when it stops happening.)

After my investigation, it turns out that "for rent" lots work like cloned (which makes sense), but they take up a lot of space for the game cache. What lots + a many of families cause the background to be set to default. Even adding a new plot that is not "for rent" can cause this problem (I posted a video on YT below) because the "cache" is full.

I even test that TOOLS maybe make problems - no it is't.
With or without mods results is the same - you have more (not default) lots on save (for rent and penthouses are heavier) and families - default backgroud will be appear.

I REMIND you that the NEW DLC introduces a NEW world (and a new type of lots), which can result in you having this error right after installing the new EP because the cache will fill up.
I had it after installing Lovestruck when release (L&D start on new save)
So EA, please fix that, add more "memory" - With each new add-on the game runs worse and worse.
If you have the courage to sell "Get to work 2.0" at least give us a chance to play it without any problems
