Sometimes sims who are just walking through the neighborhood seem to cut through my sims’ backyard and house. My sims don’t know them, and haven’t invited them in. They just walk through and go?

Yeah this happens to me too, atleast in San Myshuno. I guess the NPC's don't see the lot as unpassable object, so they just walk through apartments, through walls and everything. Sometimes they get stuck and just spin in my apartment and after a while leave through the door. I have noticed that when they just pass through the apartment, they are on their way to leave the neighbourhood: they just don't use sidewalks but rather go the straightest way there.
Yes. This is exactly what happens in mine. Always one apartment in San Myshuno.
