[RL] Sims drop interactions to read books with Scholarly Ideal

Dynasty glitch: sims walking away from player directed actions to read books with Scholarly Ideal activated

Hello, no mods or CC, windows 11 PC here. I downloaded the new expansion pack this morning and tried to play with the dynasty mechanics in a 4 person family I created previous to the game being released. However, I had to quit without saving because my sims would quit doing any action I directed them to do and go read books instead. I had books EVERYWHERE because they would quit partially through. leave it out, and go read a different one.

I had one sim create the dynasty. For the dynasty ideals I chose mysterious, artistic, and scholarly. The scholarly ideal is the one that had them wanting to read books. I had one sim who needed to make drinks to advance her career, and one sim who needed to paint to advance her career. I directed each of them to do their career task (make a drink, paint on easel) and both kept quitting autonomously to go read a book. I would cancel that interaction and send them back to their tasks. They would quit autonomously and go choose another book. I had to cancel and send them back six times before they completed their job tasks.

It was a complete nightmare. I don't play with autonomy off and never have. I have never had issues with this family before the new pack. I believe the issue is DIRECTLY related to the dynasty dynamic, because when I quit without saving, I went back in and there was no dynasty created and I had no problems getting them to do what I told them to do (make drinks, finish paintings). They were in no way trying to read every book in the bookcase instead of doing what I told them to do. They weren't even interested in reading the books in the bookcase.

  • Just a comment to something I've found that is a loose, poorly adhereed bandage to this... if you cue up a second action to complete once they're done with whatever you want them to do, 75% of the time, in my experience, they won't cue up reading and abandon whatever they're doing for that.  It doesn't prevent cued items getting stuck or wiped out .... and then they go read, but if I cue up, say, weeding then harvesting the garden (admittedly dynasty skill related) that gets done without it being abandoned for reading a random book.

I have an evil aligned dynasty, because reasons, and had the Dynasty Ideals Devious, Mysterious, Vicious.  Key word HAD.  Every single dynasty member would do nothing but get into fist fights and scream profanities at each other.  I had to remove vicious and now, thanks to mysterious, they keep abandoning whatever they're doing to run to stare at static tv.  They even started a fire because I took my eyes off my sim working on the culinary master chef aspiration who ran to stare at static tv while their food was on the stove.  Trying to paint?  Nope, static TV.  Try to do homework?  Nope, static TV.  When the vicious ideal was active they'd just go into a loop of nothing but mean interactions, I would have to pause the game and just cancel the constant mean interactions that just spammed the queue until I gave up and reset the sim with the debug menu.  BFF?  How about a half dozen fist fights in a row.  Every few hours.  Soul Mates?  Not when they spend more time in a fight animation than the woohoo animations.  With the mysterious ideal taking point I'll cancel the ideal activity until the queue is quiet, and they'll drop whatever I told them to do and go do the ideal activity with an empty queue, so nothing TO cancel.

The only thing I have found that overrides the dynasty ideals is Holding Court and hosting a Grand Ball.

PLEASE can EA make the activity pushes SANE.  It's hard to play when you can't do anything but babysit and micromanage.
