So glad I checked to see if this was already a thread! I'm experiencing the same issues as your husband on XBOX. None of my sims or their visitors have had the Gnome Lure ailment (and I've checked every single one!) but so far 10 gnomes have appeared at my sims household, and because of that evil gnomes came and broke a few electronics! I always turn them off during Harvestfest too, which just recently passed in my game.
Thankfully you can just stuff them in your sims inventory but this is a persistent issue that needs to get fixed. I hate having to sweep through my sims' house just to make sure none of the little freaks appear.
