Sims keep freezing

I updated my game on 4/29 and my sim is freezing constantly now.  I had this issue after a previous update and started a new game.  My new game is small with 3 played households and after the latest update my sims is just barely doing anything.  I saved and quit and reopened the game and he was doing the task I had assigned (practicing speech) but when I tried to get him to workout on a treadmill he just stood behind it doing nothing.  I reset him and he got on but the fitness skill went to level 8 and beyond to 115%.  I couldn't get him to stop using the treadmill so I reset him again and then the level 8 went back down to like 90% and now he just won't do anything.  I reset and he still just stands at the various workout equipment without doing anything.  I'm so tired of restarting my save because this game is just a broken mess. and then it's still a broken mess. 

EA/Maxis - you need to make a Sims 5.  This game is no longer viable.  But also fix it for people who want to continue playing it.  But you can't keep adding to this mess.  My computer sounds like its going to explode sometimes and playing is a just a disappointing disaster.
