Sims won't make food / begin to make it and can't continue

This has begun happening after the new update (18.09.25). My sims cannot finish making meals. Sometimes, they can begin food preparations, but then cancel out the action and wave as though there is something in the way. I have tried moving the food, moving the oven and clearing the counters. Nothing works.
