Toddler/Child Read Book interaction cancels

I absolutely despise playing with toddlers. Will they be ever fixed? It’s really hard to enjoy the game.

This has been a huge issue for me as well. My sims just will not read to their toddlers no matter how many times I try to get them to do it.

My sims are unable to read to their toddlers. If they prompt it, if the toddler prompts it, if trying to "read to bed", the adult sim will hold the book then a couple seconds later the action is canceled without any reading. Even after going to a different location the issue is still happening. 

Even after repairing the game twice interacting with toddlers is buggy. 

Having same issue now, on Windows 11, using latest update (sep 18 2025). Have tried both with and without mods.

Same happens to me on xbox series x, anything regarding reading to the toddler cancels before they even get a book out.

I have this issue sometimes. Reloading the game or resetting my Sims seems to help, but even then sometimes they'll both walk to the furthest available seating to try this interaction and it will cancel. Sometimes it just works.

I'm having the same issue. Whenever I try to interact with toddlers, sims just stand and stare at each other for hours instead of performing whatever action is in que. Notifications for the same toddler quirk keeps popping up every couple of minutes, and the toddlers keep standing or sitting and falling to the floor constantly, especially if they're sitting on a couch or high chair. Toddlers are completely glitching out.

I have this issue too. 

It only works for me when I have both parent and toddler sitting on the couch together. Have the toddler ask for a book or the parent ask to read. The toddler agrees, gets off the couch, crawls back onto the couch, then the parent successfully reads.

Any other time they ask for a book, the parent pulls out the book and both parent and toddler stand around doing nothing for a couple of seconds then the action cancels. It's like they want to try to find a nearby seat but can't so it just times out.

I have the issue with infants, too. I can only read to them if I put them in a crib then have the parent sit in a nearby chair or toddler bed.

Same here and it's weird because it only happens with the father (who has Big Happy Family Aspiration) and not the mother.
Fyi, I disabled all the packs to play with the base game, life and death, island living, backyard stuff and basement treasure. 

Maybe you could create new topic for this? It doesn't seem right and it looks like another thing that went wrong :/
